Environmental stress contributes to the development of depression through neuro-immune interactions, yet the underlying molecular mechanisms and associated clinical diagnostic biomarkers remain unclear. We established a psychosocial stress mouse model and systematically investigated the immune dysregulation induced by stress through integrated analysis of blood cell profiles, leukocyte transcriptomics, protein-protein interaction networks, single-cell RNA sequencing, and targeted pharmacological intervention. Additionally, we constructed and validated a depression predictive model using multip

Background/Objectives: This study investigates the effect of mild cyclic loads on the stress state of degenerative knee joint cartilages using a combination of experimental data and numerical modeling. Methods: A three-dimensional finite element model of the knee joint was developed based on CT scans, incorporating key components such as the femur, tibia, cartilage layers, and meniscus. Special attention was given to the mechanical properties of cartilages, which were determined through high-sensitivity dynamometer tests of cartilage samples. The experimentally obtained force-displacement curv

Podocytes are essential for glomerular function by maintaining the integrity of the glomerular filtration barrier. As terminally differentiated, post-mitotic cells, they are highly vulnerable to injury, which represents a central event in the development of chronic kidney disease. Although podocytes have been extensively studied to elucidate their structure and function, their metabolism and the role of metabolic dysregulation in podocyte injury remain incompletely understood. This review summarizes current knowledge of podocyte metabolism and its responses to diverse stressors. We discuss the

Drought stress severely constrains wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) growth and productivity. Here, we identify the histone deacetylase TaHDA1 as a negative regulator of drought tolerance in wheat. We demonstrate that TaHDA1 interacts with and deacetylates the L-glutamate decarboxylase TaGAD1 at lysine 493, promoting its ubiquitination-dependent degradation and thereby suppressing γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) accumulation. Loss of TaHDA1 function enhances TaGAD1 stability, increases GABA levels, and confers markedly improved drought tolerance, along with elevated grain GABA content. Integrated multi-

N-linked glycosylation is a way of glycosylation for newly synthesized protein, which plays a key role in the maturation and transport of proteins. Glycoside hydrolases (GHs) are essential in this process, and are involved in processing of N-linked glycoproteins or degradation of carbohydrate structures. Here, we identified and characterized MoGls2 in Magnaporthe oryzae, which is a yeast glucosidase II homolog Gls2 and is required for trimming the final glucose in N-linked glycans and normal cell wall synthesis. Target deletion of MoGLS2 in M. oryzae resulted in a reduced mycelial growth, an i

The digestive system is essential for nutrient absorption, processing, and waste elimination. The expression of many genes and physiological processes within this system exhibits a 24-h rhythmicity. However, modern lifestyle factors, such as jet lag, shift work, and irregular eating patterns, significantly disrupt these rhythms, triggering various stress responses and contributing to numerous digestive disorders. Here, we focus on emerging studies on noncanonical clock regulators involved in stress responses, integrate these novel findings into the established model of the core circadian clock

Sesame is an important oilseed crop, but its germination stage growth is increasingly limited by heat stress under climate warming. However, the molecular responses underlying heat tolerance in sesame germination stage remain unclear. In this study, a heat-tolerant genotype (G14) and a heat-sensitive genotype (G9) were compared under different durations of high-temperature treatment using phenotypic, metabolomic, and transcriptomic analyses. The results showed that G14 maintained better growth than G9 under both normal and heat stress conditions, with a more pronounced advantage under high tem

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a life-threatening clinical syndrome characterized by abrupt renal dysfunction, excessive oxidative stress, inflammatory activation, and profound metabolic disturbances, yet effective therapeutic strategies remain limited. Herein, we developed an ultrasmall pH-responsive nanoplatform (FeAst) through the self-assembly of Fe3+ and the natural flavonoid Astragalin (Ast) for injury-responsive renal delivery and metabolic intervention. The Fe3+-phenolic coordination network endows FeAst with excellent biocompatibility, intrinsic reactive oxygen species (ROS)-scavenging

Dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV-2) is a predominant cause of severe dengue and a key determinant of dengue-associated liver injury. This review integrates recent findings on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of DENV-2 hepatotropism, focusing on viral replication, cellular stress responses, and immune-mediated damage. The interplay between hepatocytes, Kupffer cells, and innate and adaptive immune responses, culminating in cytokine storm and immune-mediated hepatocyte apoptosis, is dissected. Integrating in vitro and in vivo findings, this review highlights how viral replication and immune dy

Antibiotics, as typical emerging contaminants posing significant ecological risks, are frequently detected in global coastal environments. Their biotransformation in marine environments depends on the stress responses of functional microbial communities, while the underlying response mechanisms remain unclear. Through integrated metagenomic and metabolomic approaches, this study systematically investigated the structural and functional responses of marine microbial communities during the co-metabolic degradation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX), a representative antibiotic. A marine microbial consort

Effective early warning systems for aquatic contamination require monitoring strategies capable of detecting subtle, long-term shifts in mixture-driven biological activity. Suspended particulate matter (SPM) serves as a carrier and reservoir for complex contaminant mixtures, facilitating their transport and persistence in aquatic systems, yet systematic toxicological time series for archived SPM remain scarce. Regulatory monitoring predominantly targets Priority Substances and River Basin Specific Pollutants, leaving the temporal trends of particle-associated mixture toxicity largely unresolve

The maintenance of proteostasis is essential for cellular function and organismal health. Its decline with age is a key contributor to neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic disorders, and other chronic conditions. Eukaryotic cells respond to proteotoxic stress through compartment-specific pathways, including the heat shock response (HSR), the unfolded protein response of the endoplasmic reticulum (UPRER), and the mitochondrial UPR (UPRmt). While these pathways have been extensively studied in cell-autonomous contexts, recent evidence reveals that neurons and glial cells can co-ordinate these r

Stress echocardiography is a well-established technique in adult cardiology and is mainly used for assessing regional myocardial function in patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease (CAD). Apart from detecting ischaemia, stress echocardiography has found its place in the assessment of the haemodynamic significance of valve disease, particularly in selected patients with aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation. Also in the paediatric population, stress imaging is most commonly used for the detection of ischaemia in patients with CADs such as post heart transplantation, Kawasaki

Salmonella enterica is a leading cause of foodborne outbreaks linked to leafy greens. Refrigerated storage is a cornerstone of leafy-green safety, yet strain-level variation in the persistence of internalized S. enterica under these conditions remains poorly understood. Screening of eleven S. enterica strains revealed marked differences in their persistence within detached romaine lettuce leaves stored at 10 °C. Two isolates, belonging to serovars Montevideo and Newport, displaying contrasting persistence phenotypes were selected for detailed analysis, and these differences were confirmed at 4

Daily environmental stressors embedded in urban life may influence mental health not only through direct exposure but also through the ways individuals perceive and respond to these demands. Among these stressors, commuting represents a recurrent daily burden whose psychological impacts may vary according to the surrounding residential environment. This study integrates satellite-derived nighttime light (NTL) exposure with individual-level survey data to examine the relationships among objective commuting conditions, perceived commuting stress, and mental health outcomes, as well as the modera

Pathogenic mycobacteria encounter acidic environments during host invasion, necessitating sophisticated acid resistance mechanisms. Here, we identify the GntR family regulator DasR as a conserved cyclic di-AMP (c-di-AMP) receptor in Mycobacterium tuberculosis that orchestrates acid adaptation through a multilayer network. Biochemical analyses demonstrated that DasR binds c-di-AMP with 20-fold higher affinity under acidic conditions than under neutral conditions, as evidenced by a Kd shift from 226 μM to 11.4 μM. This pH-sensitive binding aligns with acidified host niches during infection. ChIP

GRAS transcription factors are essential for plant growth and stress adaptation, yet they remain uncharacterized in the medicinal herb Coptis chinensis. To address this gap, we performed a genome-wide identification of the GRAS family and investigated its transcriptional responses to temperature and light stress, integrating comparative transcriptomics with promoter analysis to explore potential co-expression with bZIP factors. A total of 48 CcGRAS genes were identified and found to be unevenly distributed across nine chromosomes. Expression profiling revealed that CcGRAS genes are markedly mo

Fear extinction is a phenomenon that involves a gradual reduction in conditioned fear responses through repeated exposure to fear-inducing cues. Functional brain connectivity assessments, such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), provide valuable insights into how brain regions communicate during these processes. Stress, a ubiquitous aspect of life, influences fear learning and extinction by changing the activity of the amygdala, prefrontal cortex, and hippocampus, leading to enhanced fear responses and/or impaired extinction. Glucocorticoid receptors (GRs) are key to the stress re

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are a heterogeneous group of neurodevelopmental conditions characterized by deficits in social communication and the presence of restricted, repetitive behaviors. While genetic factors contribute substantially to ASD etiology, growing evidence highlights the role of environmental and epigenetic factors, with maternal stress during pregnancy emerging as a potential determinant of fetal brain development. Prenatal stress may alter the intrauterine environment through modulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and changes in glucocorticoid signalin

One postulated mechanism for the reduction in stress tolerance with aging is a decline in the regulation of stress-responsive genes, such as inducible heat shock protein 72 (HSP70). Increased levels of oxidative stress are also associated with aging, but it is unclear what impact a prooxidant environment might have on HSP70 gene expression. This study utilized a superoxide dismutase/catalase mimetic (Eukarion-189) to evaluate the impact of a change in redox environment on age-related HSP70 responses to a physiologically relevant heat challenge. Results demonstrate that liver HSP70 mRNA and pro
