BACKGROUND: A combination of weekly pegylated interferon (peginterferon) alpha and daily ribavirin still represents standard treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection in the majority of patients. However, it is not established which of the two licensed peginterferon products, peginterferon alpha-2a or peginterferon alpha-2b, is the most effective and has a better safety profile.

The use of immunomodulators in the treatment of subjects with postvaccinal reactions to TEOVac was investigated. The most effective schemes were shown to be those with the use of viferon or combination of arbidol and licopide. The terms of the response signs cupping off were much shorter vs. the cases treated with polyoxidonium. The immunomodulating factors did not affect the intensity of the immunity to the vaccine virus.

Long-term clinical experience with conservative treatment of Peyronie's disease has demonstrated that clinical efficacy of this therapy comprises maily anesthesia while erectile problems are not solved. Introduction of the drugs into the fibrous plaque is not adequate and hard to perform. Some drugs affect only some components of pathogenesis. For stabilization of the process it is recommended to use transdermal electrophoresis or phonophoresis. The search for new effective drugs and methods continues.

Multiple hepatitis co-infections are frequent in HIV-infected patients, often resulting in severe liver diseases that are difficult to treat. We report here the complete resolution of a chronic hepatitis B and D co-infection in a patient who was also infected with HCV and HIV. This cure was observed after 24weeks of combination therapy associating pegylated-IFN and ribavirin, which was initially given to treat HCV. An unexpected and extensive HDV replication was observed in this patient after HBs Ag had cleared from the serum, which was followed by a stable halt in HDV replication. Implication

We report on a boy with HCV genotype-2a infection who presented with a severe degree of ALTflare after 9 years of asymptomatic period and was treated with pegylated interferon and ribavirin. We suggest that children with HCV genotype-2 infection who show a significant ALT flare should be treated with anti-viral therapies in order to avoid progression of hepatic fibrosis.
