Immediate contact allergy to cosmetics seems to be rare, since only a few case reports on it have been published. We report on a case of IgE-mediated allergic contact urticaria caused by hydrolyzed wheat in a body cream.

We examined the prevalence of sensitisation to storage mites and house dust mites in patients attending a pneumologist and allergologist in the office and clinical outpatient department. Our findings show sensitisations to storage mites up to 12%, to house dust mites in 26%. From a total of 3213 patients 914 patients (= 28%) showed positive skin reactions against at least one storage mite. Leishmania-specific immunoglobulin subclass response was evaluated in 133 patients infected with Leishmania braziliensis. The indirect immunofluorescent antibody test (IFAT) was employed with amastigotes of L. mexicana amazonensis as antigen. Among the 133 sera obtained at consultation for diagnosis of active lesions, IgM was detected in 54 following absorption with Staphylococcus aureus Cowan strain I, and in 5 sera prior to absorption. These hundred seventy-two Chinese patients with atopic dermatitis were compared with a Caucasian population for the basic features. Significant findings occurred: personal or family history of atopy, early age of onset, xerosis, ichthyosis, palmar hyperlinearity, and facial pallor. Laboratory findings of immunologic alteration and altered pharmacologic reactivity are relatively more important features for the diagnosis of atopic dermatitis.

The relationship of the progression and regression of cutaneous lesions of 6 owl monkeys (Aotus trivirgatus) to the responses of their peripheral blood leukocytes (PBL) in vitro to mitogens and to leishmanial antigens, as well as their delayed skin test responses (DTH) in vivo to leishmanin antigen, were studied after primary and challenge infections with Leishmania braziliensis panamensis (WR 128 or WR 539). All 6 infected monkeys developed primary and satellite cutaneous leishmanial lesions which were measured for up to 30 weeks in 3 of the monkeys and up to 52 weeks in the other 3 monkeys.

A report is given on 13 patients with c. i. s. of the bladder, which are examined in vivo and in vitro with respect to their immune reactivity. In skin tests with 5 recall antigens and the primary antigen DNFB there is no difference as compared with a control group of 29 patients. In an EM test 11 of the 13 patients with c. i. s. reacted with histospecific lymphocyte sensitisation, 10 out of 13 positive results were obtained with the antigen HEP. These findings support the current view of c. i. s. of the bladder as the first stage of a malign degeneration.

Guinea pigs could be strongly sensitized to methyl, ethyl, and n-butyl methacrylates in ethanol or olive oil by the topical route, or in saline by the intradermal route.
