The Effect of Hamstring Tendon Autograft Harvest on the Restoration of Knee Stability in the Setting of Concurrent Anterior Cruciate Ligament and Medial Collateral Ligament Injuries.

BACKGROUND: A hamstring autograft is commonly used in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR); however, there is evidence to suggest that the tendons harvested may contribute to medial knee instability. HYPOTHESIS: We tested the hypothesis that the gracilis (G) and semitendinosus (ST) tendons significantly contribute to sagittal, coronal, and/or rotational knee stability in the setting of ACLR with a concurrent partial medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study. METHODS: Twelve human cadaveric knees were subject to static forces applied

[Chonggu Granules attenuate cartilage injury in knee osteoarthritis patients with liver-kidney deficiency syndrome by regulating the Nrf2 pathway].

OBJECTIVES: To explore the mechanism mediating the ameliorative effect of Chonggu Granules on cartilage injury in knee osteoarthritis (KOA). METHODS: Bioinformatics approaches were used for analyzing the active ingredients of Chonggu Granules, their potential targets, the KOA- and ferroptosis-related genes, and their intersection genes. A compound-ingredient-disease-target network and the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network were constructed to identify the key active ingredients and core targets, which were verified by molecular docking studies. In the clinical trial, 62 KOA patients we

Knee Synovial Fluid Biomarker Type and Concentration With Long-Term Outcomes After ACL Reconstruction With Concomitant Meniscal Injury.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture frequently occurs alongside meniscal injury, together altering the intra-articular environment. While ACL injury triggers an inflammatory cascade within synovial fluid, meniscal injury may intensify these responses, contributing to joint degeneration. However, little is known about how combined ACL and meniscal injuries shape the synovial inflammatory milieu or whether these profiles influence long-term outcomes. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose was to characterize synovial fluid inflammatory phenotypes at the time of ACL reconstruction with

Diagnostic Accuracy of Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Detection of Meniscal Injury in Patients With Knee Trauma: Keeping Arthroscopy as a Gold Standard.

INTRODUCTION: Damage to the knee's meniscal tissue is medically important because the meniscus plays a vital role in distributing weight, absorbing impact, and stabilizing the joint. Although arthroscopy continues to be the benchmark for the conclusive identification of knee-related injuries, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has gained traction as a widely used non-invasive technique for evaluating possible meniscal damage. The objective of this research is to assess the reliability of MRI as a diagnostic tool for identifying meniscal tears, with arthroscopic results serving as the definitive

The role of body mass index in high- and low-velocity trauma causing knee injury associated with popliteal artery lesions.

BACKGROUND: Among arterial traumas, osteoarticular traumas are particularly dangerous, and those involving the popliteal artery are associated with a high amputation rate. Despite representing a minority of arterial traumas, with an incidence that varies considerably by population and geographic location, traumatic lesions of the popliteal artery are challenging. This study aimed to verify the impact of body mass index (BMI) on arterial trauma damage and patient outcomes. METHODS: Data were retrospectively collected from the electronic medical reports of all patients with osteoarticular and v

Evaluating the Efficacy of Combined P188 Treatment and Surgical Intervention in Preventing Post-Traumatic Osteoarthritis Following a Traumatic Knee Injury.

Previous studies have shown that reconstructive surgery alone following injury to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) does not prevent the development of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA). Poloxamer 188 (P188) has been shown to prevent cell death following trauma in both articular cartilage and meniscal tissue. This study aims to test the efficacy of single or multiple administrations of P188 in conjunction with reconstructive surgery to help prevent or delay the onset of the disease. Thirty skeletally mature rabbits underwent closed-joint trauma that resulted in ACL rupture and meniscal d

Injury risk-factor differences between two golf swing styles: a biomechanical analysis of the lumbar spine, hip and knee.

The golf swing has been associated with mechanical injury risk factors at many joints. One swing, the Minimalist Golf Swing, was hypothesised to reduce lumbar spine, lead hip, and lead knee ranges of motion and peak net joint moments, while affecting swing performance, compared to golfers' existing swings. Existing and MGS swings of 15 golfers with handicaps ranging from +2 to -20 were compared. During MGS downswing, golfers had 18.3% less lumbar spine transverse plane ROM, 40.7 and 41.8% less lead hip sagittal and frontal plane ROM, and 39.2% less lead knee sagittal plane ROM. MGS reduced lea
