Carney complex is a multiple neoplasia and lentiginosis syndrome that affects endocrine glands, including the pituitary, adrenals, and testes; thyroid gland involvement has not been unequivocally demonstrated. Among 145 patients with the complex of myxomas, spotty pigmentation, endocrine overactivity, and psammomatous melanotic schwannomas, 31 (21%) had mammary lesions. Fibroblast-derived melanogenic paracrine mediators are known to play a role in melanogenesis. To investigate the effect of CCN1 (also called CYR61 or cysteine-rich 61) on melanogenesis, normal human epidermal melanocytes were treated with recombinant CCN1 protein. Three cases of the multiple lentigines syndrome are reported in a Nigerian family, involving a father and two of his children. The major abnormalities in this syndrome include: multiple lentigines, cardiac defects, genitourinary malformations, neurological deficits, growth retardation, cephalofacial dysmorphism and a family history consistent with an autosomal dominant mode of inheritance. We hereby report these cases in whom the main features are multiple lentigines, ocular hypertelorism, electrocardiographic defects and a pattern consistent with an autosomal dominant mode of inheritance.

Seventy-nine Nigerian oculocutaneous albinos were investigated. Fifty-six had typical tyrosinase-positive albinism (TPA) and 23 had brown albinism (BA), a new oculocutaneous type. The term "melanocytic nevus" comprises a group of clinically and pathologically distinct subtypes. In this prospective clinical study we evaluated the frequency, localization, and age and gender distribution of flat nevi (FN), Miescher nevi (MN), and Unna nevi (UN) in a caucasian population.
