BACKGROUND: A Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD) is a legal and enforceable document issued by the attending physician. However, according to the instructions, in many cases such as sudden, unexplained, and extraordinary deaths, along with some uncommon causes, such as cases suspicious of murder, the deceased patient must be referred to the Iranian Legal Medicine Organization (ILMO). Moreover, the unnecessary referral of corpses to ILMO can increase the workload of the staff, finally confronting the family of the deceased with high emotional and financial costs.

An epidemiological study of head injuries in Hualien County, Taiwan, was undertaken from July 1, 1987 to June 30, 1988. Clinical records, including emergency room (ER) charts, inpatient charts from the four major hospitals and coroner or medical examiner reports in this county, were reviewed. Road traffic injuries present a significant public health burden, especially in developing countries. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized global evidence on motorcycle helmet use prevalence by including 299 records across 249 articles involving 5,006,476 participants from 1982 to 2022. From the National Registry of autopsies and toxicology examinations, we selected the deceased for 2015, 2016, 2017 and January 2018 active road accident participants, i.e. pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicle drivers. From these, we further selected those who were tested for THC presence. Laryngotracheal injuries are relatively rare but their mortality rate is fairly high. Complete disruption of the trachea is extremely rare and a systematic approach is needed for early diagnosis and favourable outcome. The patient's symptoms and physical signs do not necessarily correlate with the severity of the injury as this case report highlights. X-rays, CT scans, barium swallows and endoscopies are recommended for evaluation of such injuries. However, direct laryngoscopy and fibre optic bronchoscopy are the most accurate.

An unhelmeted 59-year-old male involved in a motorcycle accident presented with a right dorsal lunate dislocation in the context of a polytrauma evaluation. Soft-tissue attachments were minimal across the carpus, which allowed for an en bloc proximal row carpectomy. Two-year follow-up yielded a satisfactory outcome given the high energy injury mechanism. Proximal row carpectomy is a useful tool which preserves wrist range of motion in the acute trauma setting and is durable, as demonstrated by our patient's postoperative mobilization using a wheelchair.

We report two confirmed human bite cases by Lactrodectus geometricus , also known as the brown widow spider. These are the first reported bite envenomation incidents by L. geometricus in Malaysia. The incidents occurred in Tawau, Sabah and Paka, Terengganu. Both men were bitten on their ear while putting on motorcycle helmets. The spiders appeared to have nested in the helmets.
