BACKGROUND: Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stroke-like episodes (MELAS) syndrome is a rare mitochondrial disorder caused by mutations in mitochondrial DNA, resulting in impaired energy production and affecting multiple organs. Adrenomedullin (AM), a member of the calcitonin peptide superfamily, is a peptide involved in both the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases and circulatory homeostasis. Its receptor, calcitonin receptor-like receptor (CLR), associates with an accessory protein, receptor activity-modifying protein (RAMP). UNLABELLED: NanoUPLC/MS(E) was used to verify the effects of 8weeks of low (SHR-LIT=4) and high (SHR-HIT=4) intensity training over the left ventricle proteome of hypertensive rats (SHR-C=4). Myosin storage myopathy (MSM) is a rare skeletal muscle disorder caused by mutations in the slow muscle/β-cardiac myosin heavy chain (MHC) gene. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is mainly associated with myosin, heavy chain 7 (MYH7) and myosin binding protein C, cardiac (MYBPC3) mutations. In order to better explain the clinical and genetic heterogeneity in HCM patients, in this study, we implemented a target-next generation sequencing (NGS) assay. An 80-year-old black male with gastric adenocarcinoma, liver metastases, and parathyroid adenomas also had a rhabdomyoma of the anterior-superior mediastinum. This appears to be the first reported case of mediastinal rhabdomyoma in the literature. The ultrastructural demonstration of haphazardly arranged myofilaments with prominent Z bands and the absence of demosomes indicates that it is of extra-cardiac type. The probable origin of this tumor from the myoid cells of the thymus is discussed.

A 28-year-old female, who showed a floppy baby syndrome during early infancy, had a non-progressive proximal muscle weakness with easy fatiguability since childhood. Two muscle specimens biopsied at the age of 28 years revealed myriads of 1-3-mum wide abnormal spaces containing neutral fat in type I and type II fibers.
