Solid papillary carcinoma is a rare breast neoplasm characterized by neuroendocrine differentiation, a circumscribed solid growth pattern, and delicate interspersed fibrovascular cores. It typically exhibits low to intermediate nuclear atypia and generally carries an excellent prognosis, even when invasion is present. Most cases are unilateral, with bilateral occurrences being exceptionally uncommon. Here, we describe a very rare case of bilateral in situ solid papillary carcinomas of the breast in a 67-year-old woman.

Small biopsies in the larynx can make a definitive diagnosis challenging due to the sampling or tangential sectioning. The differential diagnosis can be divided into mucosal lesions (squamous papillomas, intraepithelial dysplasia, and invasive squamous cell carcinoma) or submucosal lesions (vocal cord polyps/nodules, amyloidosis, granular cell tumor, rhabdomyoma, neuroendocrine neoplasms, salivary gland tumors, and cartilaginous tumors). Diagnostic criteria (both morphologic and immunohistochemical) are reviewed to arrive at a diagnosis even on small biopsy.

The value of urinary fibrinogen degradation products (EPD) as a biological marker of bladder cancer has been studied. An increase in FDP was found in 75% of bladder cancer patients, independent of the fact that they had active tumours or that they were disease free. A high correlation between the amount of the increase and the grade, local invasiveness, and risk of recurrence of the tumour has been established. The assessment of urinary FDP is considered as a valuable screening and follow-up test in patients with bladder neoplasms.

The current treatment strategy for intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs), based on the international consensus guideline, has been accepted widely. However, reported outcomes after surgical resection for IPMN show that once the tumor progresses to invasive intraductal papillary mucinous carcinoma (IPMC), recurrence is not uncommon. The surgical treatment for IPMN is invasive and sometimes followed by complications. Therefore, the best timing for resection might be at the point when high-grade dysplasia (HGD) is evident. According to previous reports, main duct type IPMN has a high m

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) is a cystic tumor of the pancreas. The etiology is unknown, but increasing evidence suggests the involvement of several tumorigenesis pathways, including an association with hereditary syndromes. IPMN occurs more commonly in men, with the mean age at diagnosis between 64 and 67 years old. At the time of diagnosis, it may be benign, with or without dysplasia, or frankly malignant with an invasive carcinoma. Tumors arising from the main pancreatic duct are termed main-duct IPMNs, those involving the branch ducts, branch-duct IPMNs. In general, small

PURPOSE: To assess the accuracy of MR imaging in predicting dural, venous sinus, and perineural invasion by skull base tumors.
METHODS: The preoperative MR images of 22 patients who had resection of skull base neoplasms were evaluated for the following characteristics: dural enhancement, pial enhancement, local perineural invasion by adjacent tumor, and venous sinus invasion by tumor. The greatest width of dural enhancement was measured, and the character of dural enhancement was noted. The pathologic and surgical reports were reviewed retrospectively with specific attention to dural, venous,

PURPOSE: Colorectal cancer remains a leading cause of cancer deaths, highlighting the need for early detection. Cologuard®, a non-invasive stool DNA test, detects biomarkers for CRC and precancerous lesions but requires follow-up colonoscopy and has a high false-positive rate. This study evaluates colonoscopy follow-up rates and diagnostic outcomes after positive Cologuard® results.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX database, a global federated real-world data platform, to analyze patients aged ≥ 18 years who tested positive on Cologuard. The primary outcome

INTRODUCTION: Solid Pseudopapillary Neoplasm (SPN) is a rare pancreatic neoplasm with low malignant potential and a relative indolent course. Complete resection of the SPN is curative for most cases and has a high survival rate. Recurrences, though rare, can still occur despite adequate resection. Pancreaticoduodenectomy is commonly performed to treat pancreatic head SPNs. In recent years, duodenum-preserving pancreatic head resection (DPPHR) has been reported as a less radical and acceptable alternative.

BACKGROUND: Intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct (IPNB) is pathologically similar to intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN). However, there are several significant differences between them. The rate of IPMN associated with extrapancreatic malignancies has been reported to range from 10%-40%, and it may occasionally be complicated with the presence of fistulas. IPMN associated with malignant IPNB is extremely rare and only nine cases have been reported in the literature.
CASE SUMMARY: We report a 52-year-old man who presented with recurrent cholangitis for nine months. Compu

AIM: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has been widely accepted as a less invasive treatment for early gastric cancer and adenoma, but research on missed synchronous gastric neoplasm (SGN) with ESD has been limited. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the incidence and characteristics of missed SGN during follow-up endoscopy in patients who have undergone ESD.
METHOD: We investigated the clinicopathological features of 602 patients and gastric neoplasms treated by ESD from January 2005 through July 2009 at our institution. We defined any second neoplasm found within 1 year afte

With the widespread use of cross-sectional imaging, particularly computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and the continuous improvement in the image quality of these techniques, the diagnosis of incidental pancreatic cysts has increased dramatically in the last decades. While the vast majority of these cysts are not clinically relevant, a small percentage of them will evolve into an invasive malignant tumor making their management challenging. Mucinous cystic neoplasms and intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) are the most common pancreatic cystic lesions with

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The possibility of proximal lesion without distal polyps is a weak point of sigmoidoscopic colon cancer screening, but the clinical significance of distal findings for advanced proximal neoplasm (APN) is uncertain. The aim of this study was to assess the significance of a distal finding as a predictor of APN.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Asymptomatic patients > or =50 years old were enrolled from among patients who underwent polypectomy at 11 tertiary medical centers during the Korean Association for the Study of Intestinal Disease prospective study conducted between July 2003 and

We reviewed 223 localized fibrous tumors of the pleura and divided them histologically into 141 benign and 82 malignant neoplasms. The criteria used for a judgement of malignancy were high cellularity and mitotic activity (more than four mitotic figures per 10 high-power fields), pleomorphism, hemorrhage, and necrosis. The tumors occurred equally in both sexes, most commonly in the sixth to seventh decades of life. Presenting symptoms included chest pain, dyspnea, and cough; they were observed in three-fourths of patients with a malignant tumor. One in every four of these patients had hypoglyc

Follicular-patterned thyroid lesions are common and are composed of a wide spectrum of thyroid lesions, including nonneoplastic, benign/low-risk neoplastic, to malignant lesions. The pathologic classifications of these lesions are based predominantly on 3 features: (1) the invasion status, (2) the nuclear features of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), and (3) the presence of >75% oncocytic cells. This review summarizes the diagnostic criteria, subtyping, pathologic features, differential diagnosis, clinical characteristics, and molecular findings of follicular-patterned thyroid lesions, includ

A 50-year-old male presented with 4-month history of longitudinal melanonychia on the fourth digit of his right foot. A nail matrix and bed biopsy was performed, which led to the diagnosis of invasive well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Immunohistochemical analysis demonstrated positivity for P16 and P40. Longitudinal melanonychia may be a diagnostic challenge, as it can be associated with both benign and malignant conditions. Given the potential for locally aggressive behaviour, squamous cell carcinoma should always be considered in cases of longitudinal melanonychia. A systematic re

BACKGROUND: Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) of the pancreas is increasingly being diagnosed incidentally on imaging. It has malignant potential, making it vital to establish the correct diagnosis, assess its malignant risk and follow a management strategy to prevent development of invasive carcinoma of the pancreas.
OBJECTIVE: This review focuses on the epidemiology, natural history, risk factors, diagnosis and management of IPMN of the pancreas, and will provide practical points for general practitioners.
DISCUSSION: IPMN of the pancreas can transform into invasive pancreatic

This case report presents a rare case regarding the contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) features and minimally invasive treatment of Epstein-Barr virus associated smooth muscle tumors (EBV-SMT) in a patient with human immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV). Currently, there are few studies involving hepatic EBV-SMT. According to WHO guidelines, the malignant potential of the disease is uncertain. The features of CEUS suggest that these hepatic lesions tend to be malignant and are often misdiagnosed as other malignant neoplasms. Presently, hepatic resection is the first choice for treating hepa

Salivary and mammary glands are both exocrine organs sharing multiple tumorigenic processes. To the best of our knowledge, salivary gland tumors mimicking invasive lobular carcinoma of the breast have not yet been described. Herein, we report a case of a 62-year-old male who presented with progressive facial paralysis. Pathologic examination revealed an ill-defined epithelial neoplasm exhibiting discohesive growth set within an extensively fibrotic stroma. Both perineural and intraneural invasion were present. E-cadherin and p120 immunostaining showed aberrant cytoplasmic expression. Targeted
