RATIONALE: Cronkhite-Canada Syndrome (CCS) is an idiopathic, nonhereditary syndrome haracterized by gastrointestinal (GI) polyposis and ectodermal changes including alopecia, onychatrophia, and pigmentation. CCS colon polyps were previously considered to be benign neoplasms. PURPOSE: Ewing's sarcoma (ES) and primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) are closely related malignant neoplasms, usually affecting the skeletal system. Extraosseous ES/PNETs are uncommon, with occasional reports of tumors affecting the genitourinary tract. Only few cases of primary vulvar Ewing's sarcoma/PNET have previously been reported.

METHODS: Diagnostic biopsy specimens from 96 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) were reviewed for the presence of TATE by an observer blinded to the patients' clinical histories. The annual incidence of pancreatic carcinoma has been increasing worldwide, and the overall 5-year survival rate has remained at approximately 5%. We re-evaluated 30 autopsy cases histologically diagnosed as pancreatic carcinoma from 1994 through 2010 at Nippon Medical School Hospital. Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare neoplasms arising from mesenchymal cells. Although most SFTs are benign, rare cases of metastasis have been reported at various sites. Complete surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment for both primary and recurrent or metastatic SFTs. Herein, we present a case of an SFT initially identified in the anterior mediastinum that later developed multiple metastases, even to the thyroid gland. The patient underwent repeated surgical resection and is currently being followed up in an outpatient setting.

Uterine leiomyosarcomas are aggressive tumors associated with a poor prognosis. These neoplasms have high metastatic potential, more frequently affecting the lungs, liver, and peritoneum. There are very few cases of metastasis to the thyroid described in the literature. We present the case of a 47-year-old female diagnosed with uterine leiomyosarcoma metastatic to the thyroid gland. In this case report, we want to emphasize the utility of ancillary studies to help differentiate a leiomyosarcoma from anaplastic thyroid carcinoma since cytologic evaluation alone can be challenging.

Metastatic neoplasms in the larynx from remote primary tumors are uncommon, and laryngeal metastasis originating from the colorectum is extremely rare. We herein report a case of metastatic laryngeal carcinoma originating from sigmoid colon cancer in a 54-year-old female. Curative partial laryngectomy was performed, and the patient remains alive with a good quality of life and no signs of recurrence seven years and eight months after sigmoidectomy and four years and eight months after partial laryngectomy.
