Lymphoepithelial carcinomas are characterized by proliferation of undifferentiated malignant epithelial cells together with an infiltrate of mature lymphocytes. They mainly appear in the nasopharynx but can also be encountered in other upper and lower aerodigestive sites such as oropharynx, stomach, trachea, and others. When they occur in the larynx they usually do so in the laryngeal ventricle and are characterized by protrusion of the laryngeal band, visible in laryngoscopy. They mainly metastasize to cervical lymph nodes no matter what size the tumour is and distant non-nodal metastases are

A 42-year-old woman was referred to our hospital because of abdominal fullness and a large abdominal mass. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated bilateral ovarian tumors, uterine myoma and left hydronephrosis. On excretory urography the left kidney was not visualized and retrograde pyelography (RP) revealed left hydronephrosis and a filling defect in the left lower ureter. Based on the diagnoses of endometriosis of bilateral ovaries, uterine myoma and a left ureteral tumor, abdominal total hysterectomy, right salpingo-oophorectomy and partial ureterectomy were performed. Pathologically, in the

The Muir-Torre syndrome is an autosomal dominantly inherited genodermatosis with malignant potential that is characterized by the presence of at least one sebaceous gland tumor (adenoma, epithelioma, or carcinoma) and a minimum of one internal malignancy. The syndrome has been documented in 147 individuals. Associated features in some of the Muir-Torre syndrome patients are colorectal carcinomas and genitourinary neoplasms. More than half of the 292 visceral cancers described in Muir-Torre syndrome patients were colorectal carcinomas; nearly 60% of these tumors were located at or proximal to t

Reported is a child who at the age of 18 months had presented with a left retinoblastoma. The lesion had involved the optic nerve (Stage IV), and was successfully treated by enucleation and radiotherapy. The radiation field did not include the mandible or the submandibular triangle. He was followed up until he left the area aged 11 years. He represented aged 12 years with a progressive swelling of the left submandibular gland. Histology of the surgically excised submandibular gland revealed a mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the submandibular gland. This case highlights the need for continual surve

In this study, the relationship between the location of colorectal cancer and synchronous benign adenomas was assessed in 591 patients. Adenomas were found in 29.7% of all patients. Patients with cancer of the cecum, ascending colon, and hepatic flexure had the highest percentage of benign adenomas. Patients with right-sided cancer had adenomas in 47% of resected specimens, which percentage was significantly higher than that in the group of patients with left-sided cancer, who had adenomas in 22% of their specimens (p less than 0.001). Patients with cancer and synchronous adenomas were also ol

Although the commonest familial form of primary hyperparathyroidism is parathyroid hyperplasia, a few families have manifested parathyroid adenomas. We describe a family in which four members developed cystic parathyroid adenomas. Although calcium levels returned to normal after resection of the adenoma, a second adenoma would often develop several years later (we have termed this temporal sequence adenomatosis). Each adenoma had a cystic histologic appearance, and three of four normal-sized parathyroid glands also contained many cysts. No other endocrine tumors have appeared, but in three pat

The eruption of multiple lobular capillary hemangiomas (granulomata pyogenicum) is a previously documented but uncommon phenomenon. Reported cases have featured the recurrence of multiple satellite lesions after surgical removal of, or trauma to, a solitary capillary hemangioma. Sporadic cases of multifocal lesions arising de novo in both previously traumatized and uninjured skin have been described as well. We describe herein two unusual patients with disseminated lobular capillary hemangioma. One patient developed skin nodules in several sites, including the mouth, knee, thumb, and foot, aft

A patient with widely disseminated mucinous adenocarcinoma had polypoid tumors in the left renal pelvis and ureter. While no certain primary site was determined, either clinically or at postmortem examination, microscopic examination of the left renal pelvis and ureter revealed atypical glandular metaplasia adjacent to the tumors and made the upper urinary tract a likely site of origin for the adenocarcinoma.

A healthy girl of 10 years presented with lumps on her tongue, shown on biopsy to be neuromas. She had had operations to her feet for pes cavus and was relatively long-limbed but had no other 'Marfanoid' features. She had a high plasma calcitonin level. At operation a normal sized thyroid gland was totally removed. It contained two discrete masses of malignant C-cells and diffuse foci elsewhere. The plasma calcitonin fell slowly to normal on follow-up but was noted to be rising 2 1/2 years later. We stress the importance of making this diagnosis as early as possible and mention briefly another

The subglottic area is defined as an anatomic region which is cylindrical in shape whose inferior margin is the inferior border of the cricoid cartilage and which is limited superiorly by an imaginary circle 5 mm below the free margin of the true vocal cords. Of 591 patients with glottic and subglottic cancers, only five (percent) had primary subglottic tumors and 132 (22 percent) had glottic tumors with subglottic extension. Sixty-five percent of the patients with glottic primary with subglottic extension were Stage 2 and 35 percent were Stage 3. Most patients were treated surgically. Hemilar

The purpose of this paper is to present the precursors and complications of multiple myeloma as manifested in Otolaryngology. The modern Otolaryngologist is well aware that systemic disease may manifest itself in our specialty. Multiple myeloma is a distinctive form of plasma cell dyscrasia which often manifests itself in Otolaryngology. For example, patients may present with epistaxis, hoarseness, asymmetry of the face, swelling of the palate, nasal obstruction and a multiplicity of other symptoms. Therefore, the practicing Otolaryngologist must maintain a high index of suspicion that a seemi

The diagnosis of thymic epithelial neoplasm has been a topic of controversy for many years. Reasons for this include the lack of predictive value associated with the morphology of these tumours and the multiplicity of classification schemes and terminologies proposed over the years. Recently, a new classification schema was introduced by the World Health Organization (WHO) in an attempt to standardise nomenclature and facilitate the diagnosis of primary thymic epithelial neoplasms. This schema, although not originally intended as a new histological classification, but rather as a means for tra

BACKGROUND The occurrence of metastasis from one neoplasm to another is known as tumor-to-tumor metastasis (TTM). It is a rare phenomenon in the natural history of any neoplasm, with approximately 100 cases reported in the literature to date. The lungs are the most frequent metastatic tumor donors and kidney cancer is the most common recipient. However, the opposite phenomenon (lung adenocarcinoma as a recipient of metastasis from renal carcinoma) has not been previously reported in the literature. CASE REPORT We present the case of a man with a history of multiple neoplasms. He had a diffuse

BACKGROUND/AIM: Treatment strategies for liver metastases differ according to the primary tumor origin. In patients with multiple primary malignancies, liver tumors should not be assumed to originate from a single cancer. We report a rare case of concurrent liver metastases from colorectal and breast cancer diagnosed using percutaneous tumor biopsy.
CASE REPORT: A 71-year-old woman was diagnosed with de novo metastatic invasive lobular carcinoma of the left breast with multiple lymph node and bone metastases, but without liver metastases. CDK4/6 inhibitor plus endocrine therapy was initiated

BACKGROUND: Collision tumors are rare but well-documented phenomena, where two distinct tumors of different origins are found together. We present a unique case of a parathyroid adenoma revealing a subclinical widespread breast carcinoma.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 67-year-old Tunisian woman with a history of triple-negative breast carcinoma was diagnosed with hypercalcemia and elevated parathyroid hormone levels. Imaging studies revealed an ectopic mediastinal parathyroid adenoma and a jugulo-carotid mass. Microscopic exam showed a well-circumscribed parathyroid adenoma, surrounded by a thin fibro

Genitourinary presentation of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1) is rare, amongst which bladder involvement is the most common. Sporadic case reports do highlight infrequent external genitalia involvement in NF-1. We present a 21-year-old male with prior childhood history of partial cystectomy for an NF-1 related bladder tumor, who more recently presented with gross hematuria. Workup revealed multiple ganglioneuromas involving the bladder, prostate, and penis, and the patient underwent radical cystoprostatectomy and penile mass excision. Recurrences of previously excised urologic tumors or new tu

The occurrence of synchronous primary gynaecologic malignancies is a relatively common event. However, the occurrence of three different pelvic cancers is very rare. In this report, the authors describe the clinical, surgical, and pathological findings of a patient with synchronous primary malignancies of the fallopian tube, endometrium, and sigmoid colon. To the authors' knowledge, it is the first case described in the literature with such an association of primary synchronous cancers.

Simultaneous occurrence of multifocal urothelial carcinoma (UC) and ipsilateral renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is rare. We report a 67-year-old woman with multifocal, infiltrating urothelial carcinoma and unilateral renal cell carcinoma. She was referred to our department because of painless gross hematuria. Cystoscopy, computed tomography and retrograde pyelography studies revealed bladder, bilateral renal and ureter UC. She was treated with transurethral resection of the bladder tumor followed by bilateral nephroureterectomy. The pathological diagnosis was high-grade UC over the bladder and both
