Perceived sources of occupational burn-out and embitterment among front-line health workers for COVID-19 control in Gyeonggi province, South Korea: a qualitative study.

OBJECTIVES: Front-line health workers (FHWs) for COVID-19 control in South Korea have implemented a labour-intensive contact tracing programme, which places them at high risk for mental health problems. However, a few studies have examined mental health conditions in this population. We employed a qualitative approach to understand the factors perceived as causes of burn-out and embitterment among temporary FHWs to provide recommendations for supporting the workforce. METHODS: We recruited 20 FHWs to participate in semistructured focus group interviews through purposive sampling. The sample s

Risk of Occupational Latent Tuberculosis Infection among Health Personnel Measured by Interferon-Gamma Release Assays in Low Incidence Countries-A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Healthcare workers (HCWs) have increased risk for latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) and tuberculosis (TB) disease due to their occupational exposure. For some years now, interferon-γ release assays (IGRAs) have replaced the tuberculin skin test for the diagnosis of LTBI in many countries. This review examined the occupational risk of LTBI in HCWs with IGRA testing in low incidence countries. A systematic review and meta-analysis of studies from 2005 onwards provide data regarding the prevalence of LTBI in HCWs. In addition, the pooled effect estimates were calculated for individual regions

Marital status and cardiovascular risk factors among middle-aged Japanese male workers: the High-risk and Population Strategy for Occupational Health Promotion (HIPOP-OHP) study.

Marital status is related to cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in Western countries. However, few studies have addressed the relationship between marital status and CVD risk factors in other populations. We investigated lifestyle and CVD risk factors relative to marital status among middle-aged Japanese men. We analyzed baseline data of 40-59-yr-old male workers who participated in the high-risk and population strategy for occupational health promotion (HIPOP-OHP) study. We compared lifestyle and CVD risk factors between men who were married (Group M; n=1,419, mean age 47.9 +/- 5.1 yr)…

Even the COVID-19 pandemic didn´t change anything: insights from a trend study on the cooperation of general practitioners and occupational health physicians in Germany.

BACKGROUND: The working fields of general practitioners (GPs) and occupational health physicians (OHPs) overlap manifoldly. Yet, cooperation between both groups is often scarce as has been revealed by studies from several countries. During the COVID-19 pandemic, GPs dealt with many work-related counselling topics. We conducted a trend study surveying German GPs and OHPs in 2014/2015 (GPOP-0 study) and 2023/2024 (GPOP-Trend) to analyse trends regarding a potential change of attitudes towards interdisciplinary cooperation over time, before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: The trend stu…

Testing the Level of Agreement between Two Methodological Approaches of the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) for Occupational Health Practice-An Exemplary Application in the Field of Dentistry.

BACKGROUND: The Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) is used for the risk assessment of workplace-related activities. Thus far, the paper and pen method (RULA-PP) has been predominantly used for this purpose. In the present study, this method was compared with an RULA evaluation based on kinematic data using inertial measurement units (RULA-IMU). The aim of this study was, on the one hand, to work out the differences between these two measurement methods and, on the other, to make recommendations for the future use of the respective method on the basis of the available findings. Unveiling Exposure Pathways at the Oral Cavity during Firefighting Work: Salivary Metal(loid)s and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons, Occupational and Biological Determinants, and Exploratory Health Risks.

Fire emissions are environmental contaminants with hazardous effects on the environment and human health. Human exposure to fire emissions occurs mainly via inhalation and dermal contact, while buccal exposure concentrations remain largely underexplored. This work characterizes, for the first time, exposure to metal(loid)s and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) at the oral cavity during firefighting work, accounting for five occupational and personal-life variables. Paired spot saliva samples were collected by 58 firefighters [organized in 4 groups: non-smoker non-exposed (NSNE), non-smok
