This methodology has been developed to standardize the pathology evaluation of melanoma metastasis regression in the index lymph node after neoadjuvant/perioperative immunotherapy in patients with stage III resectable cutaneous melanoma. The methodology is intended for use by pathologists, clinical and surgical oncologists, and healthcare quality assessment experts. It can be implemented as a local protocol for pathological examination, as well as integrated into national clinical guidelines and relevant organizational and methodological documents.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is associated with hamartomatous growths including subependymal giant cell astrocytomas (SEGAs). Since chemo-radiation therapies offer scant benefit, oncologists had traditionally been little involved in managing SEGAs. Recent evidence demonstrating rapamycin efficacy in adults and children with TSC-associated tumors foresee a practice change. We summarize our institutional experience and literature review that highlight potential benefits and hazards of rapamycin therapy, for TSC patients with SEGA, and other syndromal brain tumors.

Ibritumomab, an (90)Yttrium ((90)Y) labelled radioimmunoconjugate, is registered in Europe to treat follicular lymphomas. Its mode of action combines the selectivity of monoclonal antibodies with the efficiency of radiotherapy, making it a unique and useful therapeutic agent. This paper is for haemato-oncologists with a decent practice in lymphoma therapy, who have not yet used ibritumomab themselves. It summarizes clinical trials with radioimmunotherapy, indicating clinical situations where it may be specifically useful.

We present a clinical case of ileal carcinoid tumor manifested to a man about 53 years old, which was operated first time in emergency when right hemicolectomy was performed and after that reintervention for a small fistula. Finally this patient was treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy in ambulatory care by oncologists. In conclusion we can say that acute appendicitis with generalized peritonitis could be one of form by manifestation of this tumor:ileal carcinoid tumor.

Classification, understanding of the pathophysiology, and treatment options of thymoma have changed during recent years. It is hoped that novel strategies will lead to a survival benefit in these patients. It has become clear that patients with thymoma are best treated with multimodality therapy. In this review, a pathologist, an immunologist, a surgeon, a radiotherapist, a pneumologist, and oncologists discuss the current status of classification and strategies for the treatment of patients with thymoma.

Although primary malignancies of bone are rare, thousands of benign bone tumors are diagnosed annually. It is important to be able to distinguish benign lesions from malignant lesions and differentiate those lesions that can be watched versus lesions that require further treatment and referral to an orthopaedic oncologist. Learning to distinguish these entities and their appropriate treatment or triage will positively affect the patient and the surgeon's practice.

Sarcomas represent a highly heterogeneous group of tumors as reflected in the significant overlap between their histologic phenotypes between the different types, posing diagnostic challenges for the pathologist. Definitive tumor classification is increasingly important because of prognostication and emergence of targeted therapies for some of the sarcoma types. In this review, we highlight pertinent pathologic and molecular aspects of sarcomas common in the retroperitoneum, relevant to the surgical oncologist.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence and risk factors of burnout in medical surgeons.
METHOD: Observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study in 296 specialists. The data was processed descriptively and inferentially with the support of the SPSS 15.0 and Epi-infoV6.1 program.
