Osteochondritis dissecans of the head of the talus.

We present a case of osteochondritis dissecans of the head of the talus, without a history of trauma. The clinical and radiological features and a 2-year and 3-month follow-up are discussed.

[Excessive nonspecific acral bone resorption of the margin of the distal phalangeal tuberosity of individual fingers].

The margin of the ungual tufts corresponds to an enthesis at which, besides the dominant formation of bone, a minimal reduction of bone is also possible. This bone resorption at individual digits may concern the distral part of this margin in an augmented degree and remains stationary after a certain extent. It is not connected to any definite disease.

[Roentgen symptoms of renal osteopathy].

Chronic renal insufficiency is associated with metabolic disturbances which ultimately lead to typical, partly extremely painful changes in the skeletal system the longer the disease persists. Regular x-ray control of certain skeletal segments allows early detection of renal oesteopathy if the radiological findings described in this article are carefully scrutinised and interpreted.

Radiographic observations of pyknodysostosis. Report of a case.

A case of pyknodysostosis in a 32-year-old woman has been reported. The patient presented typical skeletal changes, separated cranial sutures, open fontanelles, partial aplasia of the terminal phalanges of the fingers and toes, and brachyphalanges. The oral findings included lesions resembling periapical cementoma, hypoplasia of the maxilla and mandible, crowding of teeth, and a median raphe.

Generalized skeletal sclerosis as a potential late effect of total body irradiation after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: A case report.

High bone mineral density (BMD) is common and sometimes an incidental finding. The causes are numerous. Among them, none has previously been attributed to total body irradiation (TBI). We present the case of a 56-year-old female patient with a history of T-lymphoblastic lymphoma at age 33 who was treated with allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation following a conditioning regimen including a single-fraction 10 Gray TBI. This patient was in complete remission but experienced several transplant-related late effects. She presented to the rheumatology outpatient clinic with chronic mec

Painful neuropathy caused by compression of the inferior alveolar nerve by focal osteosclerotic lesion of the mandible: A case report.

Osteosclerotic lesions are a common finding on dental radiographs. They are considered developmental variants of a normal bone architecture and they usually do not need any treatment. The purpose of this article is to present a rare case of osteosclerotic lesion of the mandible causing trigeminal neuropathy by compression of the alveolar nerve. The pain started with dental hypersensitivity of the mandibular right first molar. Later on, signs of irreversible molar tooth pulpitis developed. Endodontic therapy and apicoectomy did not resolve the pain, which later intensified, and painful neuropat

[Osteomyelitis of the mandible and dysosteosclerosis].

Dysosteosclerosis is a rare genetic disorder with a poor prognosis. It is an osteochondrodysplasia similar to osteopetrosis but it is typically characterized by platyspondyly and expanded metaphyses. It shows complications such as compression of cranial nerves, especially the optic nerve, hematologic complications, fractures following mild injury, abnormal dentition, neurological and psychological deterioration, in addition to osteomyelitis of the mandible. We report a new case of dysosteosclerosis complicated by osteomyelitis of the lower maxilla.

Autosomal-dominant osteopetrosis: an incidental finding.

Osteopetrosis is a descriptive term that refers to a group of rare, heritable disorders of the skeleton. Osteopetrotic conditions vary greatly in their presentation and severity, from just as an incidental finding on radiographs to causing life-threatening complications such as bone marrow suppression. It is caused by failure of osteoclast development and function. Osteopetrosis can be inherited as autosomal-recessive, autosomal-dominant or as X-linked traits, with the most severe forms being the autosomal-recessive ones. The severity of the disease is mild to moderate in the autosomal-dominan

Diagnostic criteria for the detection of mandibular osteomyelitis using cone-beam computed tomography.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the usefulness of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in cases of suspected osteomyelitis (OM) of the mandible. METHODS: 13 patients with clinical suspected OM of the mandible underwent cone-beam computed tomography with the NewTom QR-DVT 9000. After CBCT revealed signs confirming the diagnosis of OM, biopsies were performed. Only cases in which histology confirmed the OM were included in this study. RESULTS: CBCT sufficiently depicts OM-typical lesions like osteolytic and osteosclerotic areas as well as periosteal reaction, ill-defined cortical borders and seques

Temporal aspects in craniometaphyseal dysplasia: autosomal recessive type.

We present the clinical and radiographic findings in a patient with the autosomal recessive form of craniometaphyseal dysplasia (CMD). The changes from infancy to the age of 17 years are illustrated and discussed.

The weighted abduction Grashey shoulder method.

The Grashey shoulder position is used to demonstrate damage to the glenohumeral joint caused by osteoarthritis, sclerosis, tumors, fractures, osteophytes and cystic changes. However, it can be difficult to assess loss of articular cartilage using the Grashey shoulder position because little axial load is applied to the glenohumeral joint. This article describes a method of creating a loading force across the glenohumeral joint by adding weighted arm abduction during the Grashey position to demonstrate loss of the articular cartilage. Case studies and radiographs are presented to discuss the ad

[Cherubism: regression of the lesions and spontaneous bone regeneration].

Three cases of cherubism belonging to the same genealogical tree which had been followed up since the age of 7 years to adulthood are presented. These cases prove that, without treatment, the regression of the lesions and bone regeneration are real and not anecdotal. Nevertheless, following spontaneous bone regeneration, radiographically some radiolucent areas of low intensity and devoid of trabeculations, and/or areas of sclerotic bone do persist. In one case, cherubism was associated with peripheral giant cell granulomas localized in areas not affected by cherubism.
