We report on a 10-year-old boy with recurrent urinary tract infection. Renal ultrasound demonstrated the presence of air in the collecting system of the right kidney. The patient was examined radiologically and an enterorenal fistula was diagnosed. The case serves as a reminder that, although entero-renal fistulas are rare, they should be included in the differential diagnosis of recurrent urinary tract infections, especially if air is observed in the collecting system.

Dilatation of the renal pelvis has been observed as an ultrasonographic finding of ureteral reflux as well as hydronephrosis. However, little information is available on the prevalence of renal pelvis at dilatation in neonates. A case of squamous cell carcinoma of renal pelvis is reported. A 73-year-old Caucasian male complained of macrohematuria. The echography and Computer Tomography scan of the abdomen and pelvis revealed a large tumor mass in the right kidney associated with lymphadenopathy. The significance of vessel invasion by cancer of the renal pelvis and ureter was estimated with surgical specimens of 45 patients. The vessel invasion by cancer was observed in 25 out of 45 cases (55.6%). The incidence of vessel invasion increased with the grade of cancer and the extent of the primary tumor. Transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the bladder or renal pelvis is rare in children. We report 2 children with TCC of the bladder and 1 with TCC of the renal pelvis. One of the two children with bladder carcinoma experienced frequent intravesical recurrences, which is in contrast to the usual clinical course of bladder carcinoma in children. In the 3rd child, renal pelvic carcinoma was found incidentally in a renal pelvis specimen removed during pyeloplasty.

This article describes the first reported case of a primary transitional cell carcinoma of the renal pelvis metastatic to the ovary. The clinical presentation in our patient was similar to that of a primary ovarian carcinoma. The differential diagnosis of a primary or metastatic transitional cell carcinoma in the ovary is important and has therapeutic as well as prognostic implications.

The vagina, uterus and adnexa of 21 women who had a proctocolectomy for ulcerative colitis or Crohn's colitis were examined with vaginography and hysterosalpinography. Six healthy women were used as controls. A characteristic post-operative deformation of the adnexa and the vagina was demonstrated. In 17 of 21 women the fallopian tube anatomy was pathological, in four cases with total obstruction. These abnormalities explain why vaginal discharge, dyspareunia and involuntary sterility are common complaints in women after this type of surgery.

During an 18-year period, 17 patients with renal pelvic and 8 with ureteral carcinoma were seen in our clinic. The lesion was transitional cell carcinoma in 23 patients, and epidermoid and anaplastic carcinoma, respectively, in 2 others. Because of frequent tumour recurrence in the lower tract, we recommend total nephroureterectomy including a cuff of the bladder as the treatment of choice for renal pelvic neoplasms. For ureteral tumours, less aggressive and conservative procedures can be considered.

We report a case of cholesteatoma of the renal pelvis with a 56-year followup. Quiescence of the disease with remission of symptoms, stabilization of the lesion and absence of further anatomical change was related temporally to treatment with vitamin A. The disease in our patient was idiopathic and no causative or predisposing factors were demonstrated.

A case of primary mucinous adenocarcinoma of the renal pelvis is reported. A 55-year-old man visited our clinic with lumbar pain.
