In the mammalian pineal gland, serotonin (5-HT) is located both in the pinealocytes and in the noradrenergic nerve terminals. Pineal 5-HT can be metabolized by three different routes, one of these being its deamination, catalyzed by monoamine oxidase (MAO). MAO is known to exist as two isozymes, MAO-A and MAO-B. Previous investigations of stress effects on gastric emptying, orocaecal, and colonic transit in rats have produced conflicting results. The histological effects of unilateral incarcerated inguinal hernia on the ipsilateral and contralateral testes were examined in adult rats. Three groups were established. A new immunohistochemical method that utilizes carbodiimide as a tissue fixative was applied to study the distribution of histamine-immunoreactive neuronal fibers and terminals in the rat brain. In the preceding paper, we reported that 1-[3-[3-oxospiro[benzofuran-2(3H),1'-cyclopropan]-5- yl]acryloyl]piperidine(1a) and 4-[3-[3-oxospiro[benzofuran-2(3H),1'-cyclopropan]-5- yl]acryloyl]morpholine(1b) have potent antiulcer activities. In this paper, propionic acid derivatives (2,3) and oxyacetic acid derivatives (4, 5, 10) were prepared by converting the acryloyl moiety into propionyl and oxyacetyl groups, and tested for antiulcer activities. As a result, [3-oxospiro[benzofuran-2(3H),1'-cyclopropan]5-yloxy]-a cetamide(4j) exhibited significant antiulcer activities.

Plasma angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activity was studied during the development and the reversal of one-kidney, one clip (1K1C) renal hypertension in rats (RHR). Using liposomes radiolabelled by the 99mTechnetium-stannous chloride technique we have investigated the effect of surface charge on the stability of the isotope in vitro and in vivo. Dialysis of 99mTc-labelled positive, negative and neutral liposomes, which had been incubated in either saline or normal rat serum showed no significant loss of the isotope from the liposome surface with only 2 per cent of the isotope dialysed. The in vivo photodegradation of chlorpromazine (CPZ) in the skin was investigated after systemic administration of 3H-CPZ to shaven Wistar rats and exposure to UV-A.
