BACKGROUND: Sophisticated atrio-ventricular pacing models are designed to integrate the pacemaker into cardiovascular autonomic control to react appropriately to the cardiovascular demands. Such an approach might be beneficial for patients with vasovagal responses to counterbalance the upright fall in arterial blood pressure by a pacing rate increase. AIM: To study motor and secretory function of the stomach and duodenum in duodenal ulcer (DU) and chronic hyperacidic gastritis (CHG).
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Autonomic nervous system was studied and esophagogastroduodenoscopy, 24-h intragastric pH-metry were made in 42 DU and 20 CHG patients.
RESULTS: In comparable secretion, the patients of the above groups differed by severity and frequency of duodenogastric reflux (DGR). Grave and moderate DGR was typical for CHG and DU in the absence of complications. Minimal DGR occurred in DU with complications.
CONCLUSION: DGR severity may be of progn

Spasticity is common feature of human spinal cord injury. It contributes to motor impairment and it also promotes joint deformity in patients who have sustained such injury. A new method for detecting the acoustic reflex that utilizes standard otoacoustic emissions recording techniques is introduced and discussed. Two successive identical tone bursts of 100 ms duration and 10 ms interstimulus interval are presented in the occluded ear canal at a repetition rate of one per second. If the acoustic reflex is elicited, the contraction of the stapedius muscle is delayed with respect to the onset of the first stimulus.
