A double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was undertaken for two weeks to evaluate three dosing schedules for administration of cetirizine in patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis. Average severity scores from the patients' ratings for sneezing and nasal itching were significantly reduced in all three cetirizine groups (10 mg QAM or QHS and 5 mg BID), compared with placebo. The present work reports the results of an allergological evaluation performed on 411 patients suffering from chronic rhinitis alone or associated with bronchial asthma. Allergic diagnosis was based on the results of skin prick tests, serum RAST, nasal provocation, allergy avoidance diets and food provocation. 207 patients were sensitized to one or more allergens (50.4%); mean age for onset of rhinitis was 14.9. The aim of the study was to investigate whether topical application of a beta-2-adrenostimulant (fenoterol) on the mucous membrane has a clinically significant anti-allergic effect. Flunisolide nasal spray has been compared with placebo and with beclomethasone dipropionate in the treatment of perennial rhinitis. A double-blind, cross-over study in 26 patients comparing intranasal flunisolide (total dose 300 microgram/day) with placebo showed superiority of the active preparation in the relief of sneezing, stuffiness and runny nose. On August 4th, 2020, Beirut witnessed the largest non-nuclear explosion in modern history. The explosion resulted in the release of large amounts of gases and particulate matters (PM) including ammonia and nitrogen oxides (NOx), as well as pure oxygen (O2). NO2 conversion into nitric and nitrous acids has been shown to damage the alveolar structure in distal airways.
