Papillary muscle rupture in the absence of coronary stenoses is a rare event. An isolated infarction of the papillary muscle is involved in most cases, but the pathogenesis is still debated. We describe an anterolateral papillary muscle rupture complicating acute pancreatitis in a patient without significant coronary stenoses and with evidence of coronary spasm. This suggests that an increased susceptibility to coronary spasm and thrombosis, triggered by an acute systemic inflammatory response, may represent a mechanism of selective papillary muscle infarction.

A 10-year-old boy suffered a large, oblique anterior capsular tear following blunt injury to his right eye. The boy was followed daily for hyphema resolution and progressive traumatic cataract formation. After the hyphema had resolved, the lens was removed using an anterior approach and an intraocular lens was placed with excellent visual outcome.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Intracerebral hematomas (ICHs) often increase in size in the initial hours. It is unknown whether expansion of ICHs after aneurysmal rupture in the acute phase is always a sign of rerupture of the original aneurysm.

Splenic rupture is an extremely rare complication of colonoscopy. So far, less than 80 cases have been reported worldwide since 1970. We report a case of an 11-year-old boy who presented two days after blunt trauma to the left eye with a slingshot. On examination his best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 20/20 in the right eye and 20/400 in the left eye. We report a case of spontaneous diaphragm rupture during delivery in a 42-year-old woman. The patient presented at surgical emergency department with abdominal pains, vomiting and dyspnea, three days after full-term delivery. Rupture of the mitral papillary muscle due to infective endocarditis is a very rare complication. There is no report regarding anterolateral papillary muscle rupture as a complication of infective endocarditis in the literature. We decided to report a case of anterolateral papillary muscle rupture due to infective endocarditis. Our case, which will be discussed later on, differs also in many ways from that in the literature.

We present here a case of transient anhydramnios due to premature rupture of the membranes observed from 19 weeks' gestation. At 27 weeks' gestation, the amniotic fluid had increased due to spontaneous membrane sealing. At 32 weeks' gestation, premature rupture of the membranes occurred again. A male fetus was delivered with birth weight 1,706 g. Although the infant was diagnosed as having dry lung syndrome, he is now a healthy 1-year-old boy.

AIMS: To compare neonatal neurological morbidity associated with uterine rupture with morbidity associated with a non-reassuring fetal status.
