Research on health-technology for people with acquired brain injury (ABI) is evolving rapidly and accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic. But there is little information on what ABI stakeholders want from this research. We conducted a mixed methods study using an online survey with data collected twice, before and during, the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants were 18 + from three self-identified stakeholder groups: (1) people with ABI, (2) ABI carers, and (3) ABI healthcare professionals. There were 252 participants (55.8%) before the COVID-19 pandemic and 200 (44.2%) during the COVID-19 pande

Background The transition from inpatient rehabilitation to community living is a challenging time for adults with acquired brain injury (ABI). This study aimed to investigate barriers to evidence-based discharge practices in inpatient ABI rehabilitation and to collaboratively design implementation solutions with rehabilitation healthcare professionals. Method We used a theoretical problem-analysis approach guided by the Predisposing, Reinforcing, and Enabling Constructs in Educational Diagnosis and Evaluation (PRECEDE) - Policy, Regulatory, and Organizational Constructs in Educational and Envi

OBJECTIVE: Secrecy about a child's difference of sex development (DSD) can lead to internalized shame and stigma. We explored how teenagers and adults with DSD, parents, healthcare providers, and allied professionals value and perceive patient education.
METHODS: Stakeholders (n = 110) completed qualitative semi-structured interviews. Relevant themes for educational content were queried and organized.
RESULTS: Education was consistently identified as essential to successful outcomes. There was less consistency in how to educate patients. Disagreement existed regarding who should champion the

OBJECTIVE: To ensure consistency and reduce outcome measure reporting heterogeneity in clinical trials on pediatric functional abdominal pain disorders (FAPDs), a core outcome set (COS) was developed for pediatric FAPD trials.
STUDY DESIGN: A mixed-method 2-round Delphi technique was used and key stakeholders, including healthcare professionals (HCPs), patients with FAPD, and their parents were invited to participate. In the first round, key stakeholders identified outcomes of importance through an open-ended questionnaire. Outcomes mentioned by ≥10% of the participants were included in a sho

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Contemporary health systems continue to face persistent challenges in financing, equity, and governance, particularly under conditions of limited resources, workforce shortages, and demographic pressures. While the World Health Organization calls for strengthening social participation to achieve universal health coverage, evidence suggests that such participation often remains largely symbolic. Existing global examples of social participation in health are limited either by their short duration of implementation or by their limited scope. In contrast, the experience of f

BACKGROUND: Chronic pain is a common cause of health-related incapacity for work among people in the UK. Individualised placement and support is a systematic approach to rehabilitation, with emphasis on early supported work placement. It is effective in helping people with severe mental illness to gain employment, but has not been tested for chronic pain.
OBJECTIVE: To inform the design of a definitive randomised controlled trial to assess the clinical effectiveness of individualised placement and support for people unemployed because of chronic pain.
METHODS: A mixed-methods feasibility stu

INTRODUCTION: Digital health has gained traction in research and development, and clinical decision support systems. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of decentralised clinical trials (DCTs) as a mitigation and efficiency improvement strategy. We assessed the opportunities and challenges of a digital transformation in clinical research in sub-Saharan Africa from different stakeholders' perspectives.
METHODS: A qualitative study, including 40 in-depth semi structured interviews, was conducted with investigators of three leading research institutions in sub-Saharan Africa and Switz

Resulting from generations of historical oppression and systemic racism, American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities experience serious health disparities associated with substance use disorders (SUDs). As part of a longstanding community-based participatory research intervention development project, our partnership of academic and community co-researchers conducted seven focus groups (N = 35) to understand community stakeholders' perspectives on substance use, relapse, and recovery on a rural AI reservation. Participants included cultural leaders (n = 10), SUD treatment providers (n

Carrier screening for cystic fibrosis has been recommended for pregnant women and their partners, individuals and couples prior to conception, and for people with a family history. Many pilot programmes offering cystic fibrosis carrier screening, most commonly in the prenatal setting, have shown that uptake and acceptability are high. This article explores perspectives of the Victorian community regarding carrier screening for cystic fibrosis prior to offering screening. In particular whether or not such carrier screening should be offered, the best time for offering carrier screening, the inf
