Gradient boosting machine model predicts psychiatric complications after deep brain stimulation in Parkinson's disease.

BACKGROUND: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an effective method for treating the motor symptoms of advanced Parkinson's disease (PD). However, complications such as depression, anxiety, cognitive impairment, and delirium that occur after DBS surgery can severely affect a patient's quality of life and the therapeutic effect. AIM: To construct a gradient boosting machine (GBM) risk model to predict the risk of mental complications such as depression, anxiety, and cognitive impairment in patients with PD after DBS surgery. METHODS: We retrospectively collected data on patients with PD treated a

Assessment of health-related quality of life after mild COVID-19 infection.

INTRODUCTION: Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) affected the health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and its impact on well-being is not sufficiently understood yet. The worsening of HRQoL and symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, depression, chronic Headache, Myalgia, ageusia, olfactory disorders, and cognitive impairment can be seen in people of different ages and genders after COVID-19 infection, even mild infections without hospitalization. These issues generate a disease burden that can reduce work skills and cause social, psychological, and neuropsychiatric challenges. OBJECTIVE: To evalua

Dental anxiety in adolescents with a history of childhood dental sedation.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether adolescents with a history of childhood dental treatment using sedation had a higher level of self-reported dental anxiety than adolescents without such a history. A group of 287 adolescents were identified who had received dental treatment using an identical sedation regime during childhood (mean age 5.05 +/- 0.16 years). A cover letter and a modified Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS) were mailed to the parents of all subjects. Sixty-one subjects (n = 61, 21 males, 40 females, mean age = 14.79 +/- 0.16 years) (+/- SE) completed and returned the form

Psychological and motor outcomes of botulinum toxin in hemifacial spasm and blepharospasm.

PURPOSE: Hemifacial spasm (HFS) and blepharospasm (BSP) impair motor function and psychosocial health. This study assessed anxiety, depression, and self-esteem changes following botulinum toxin A (BoNT-A) treatment. METHODS: In this prospective study, 158 adult patients (HFS: n = 112, BSP: n = 46) receiving ongoing BoNT-A treatment were recruited. Motor severity was assessed using the Hemifacial Spasm Grading Scale (HSGS) for HFS and the Modified Jankovic Rating Scale (MJRS) for BSP. Psychological status was measured using the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and

Parent-rated anxiety symptoms in children with pervasive developmental disorders: frequency and association with core autism symptoms and cognitive functioning.

BACKGROUND: In addition to the core symptoms, children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) often exhibit other problem behaviors such as aggression, hyperactivity, and anxiety, which can contribute to overall impairment and, therefore, become the focus of clinical attention. Limited data are available on the prevalence of anxiety in these children. We examined frequency and correlates of parent-rated anxiety symptoms in a large sample of children with PDD. METHODS: The goals of this study were to examine the frequency and correlates of parent-rated anxiety symptoms in a sample of 171

Self-compassion, emotion regulation, and resilience as predictors of psychological well-being in fibromyalgia patients: a cross-sectional study.

While the roles of self-compassion and cognitive emotion regulation in mental health are increasingly acknowledged, their specific impact on fibromyalgia (FM) remains understudied. Given the substantial psychological burden associated with FM, this study aimed to examine these constructs in relation to emotional distress and resilience. Specifically, we sought to: (1) compare self-compassion and emotion regulation strategies between FM patients and healthy controls; (2) explore their associations with depression, anxiety, pain intensity, and resilience; and (3) identify predictors of psycholog

[Hyperventilation syndrome].

Hyperventilation syndrome is a disorder affecting children and adults, mostly women. It is frequently associated with anxiety disorders, and greatly affects quality of life. Diagnosis, which unfortunately is most often established late, is a diagnosis of elimination. It rests on a wide range of non-specific signs, on Nijmegën's clinical scale as well as on a hyperventilation provocative test. In most cases, specialized therapeutic interventions allow for an adequate control of ventilation and symptom relief.

Anxiety and Depression Affect Sleep Quality: A Preliminary Investigation in Crowdsourced Samples of Autistic and Non-Autistic Adults.

We aimed to compare sleep problems in autistic and non-autistic adults with co-occurring depression and anxiety. The primary research question was whether autism status influences sleep quality, after accounting for the effects of depression and anxiety. We hypothesized that autistic adults would report higher levels of depression, anxiety, and sleep problems compared to non-autistic adults, after controlling for these covariates. We recruited 208 adults (109 non-autistic, 99 autistic) through a crowdsourcing platform, Prolific. Participants completed the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Ce

Mood instability, depression, and anxiety in pregnancy and adverse neonatal outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Antenatal women experience an increased level of mood and anxiety symptoms, which have negative effects on mothers' mental and physical health as well as the health of their newborns. The relation of maternal depression and anxiety in pregnancy with neonate outcomes is well-studied with inconsistent findings. However, the association between antenatal mood instability (MI) and neonatal outcomes has not been investigated even though antenatal women experience an elevated level of MI. We sought to address this gap and to contribute to the literature about pregnancy neonate outcomes b
