The aim of the study was to evaluate the odontometric characteristics of female-to-male transsexuals (FtM) in comparison to control groups of males and females. A total of 48 FtM, aged 20-28 years, were studied. For each tooth, two standard measurements were taken: the mesiodistal (MD) and the buccolingual (BL) diameter of the crown. Significant differences between males and females were found in BL measures of all maxillary teeth as well as mandibular lateral incisor and canine. Within the MD measures, the most distinguishing were maxillary and mandibular canines and the first molars. For sev

Talon cusp is a rare dental anomaly often associated with systemic conditions such as Rubenstein-Taybi Syndrome, Ellis-van Crevald Syndrome and Incontentia pigmenti achromians. It has not been previously reported as occurring in Alagille Syndrome. Early diagnosis of talon cusps is crucial for the correct management and avoidance of complications. This case highlights the need for careful dental examination when treating children with syndromes, as new phenotypes that can have an effect on the dentition.

Tooth transposition is the positional interchange of two adjacent teeth, which may be incomplete or complete. The root apex may remain in a normal position despite a severely displaced crown. The aim of this paper is to provide a literature review on the incidence, aetiology and treatment options for pseudo-transposed mandibular incisors. A case series is also presented highlighting the various management techniques that have been utilised in treating five cases of pseudo-transposed mandibular lateral incisors.

When a patient presents with congenitally missing teeth, early diagnosis and comprehensive treatment planning are critical to effective restorative management. Interdental space allocation must be identified to accommodate proper clinical crown proportion(s) through a surgical-prosthetic solution. This article, which presents two case reports describing situations that clinicians may commonly face, demonstrates the management of atypical tooth spacing caused by congenitally missing teeth. The implementation of interdisciplinary therapy resulted in successful outcomes from both functional and e

When the timing of alveolar bone grafting is based on the eruptive progress of the permanent maxillary canine tooth, the surgical procedure is, by definition, delayed until the late mixed dentition phase. This treatment strategy overlooks both the crown length and the periodontal condition of the maxillary permanent incisors adjacent to the cleft defect. One should perform alveolar bone grafting at the time of eruption of the maxillary central incisor at about 5.5 to 6 years of age.

This clinical report describes the treatment of excessive gingival recession involving maxillary right and left central incisors in a 30-year-old woman. The loss of the gingival soft tissue caused an increase in crown length. Gingiva-colored partial porcelain laminate veneers were applied to imitate the lost gingiva and to provide a natural anatomical tooth length. This method may be a minimally invasive alternative treatment method for gingival soft tissue loss, providing esthetic results and patient satisfaction.

The prevalence of dental anomalies including agenesis, crown shape, tooth position, root shape, and invagination were examined in 111 orthodontic patients; 74.77 per cent of the patients exhibited at least one dental anomaly. Invagination was found to be the most prevalent anomaly, whereas supernumerary teeth and root dilaceration were the least frequent anomalies. Dental invagination and short or blunt roots were significantly more prevalent in females than in males. Implications for orthodontic treatment planning are discussed.

Tissue recombination experiments and cell lineage analyses of the developing neural crest have documented the role and central pathways of migratory cells during early craniofacial development. In the present study, regional pathways of cells during late peripheral morphogenesis were investigated using the crown stage tooth organ as a model. Homing targets during tooth integument formation were analyzed to understand the fate of migratory cells involved in late tooth organogenesis and the developmental origin of periodontal tissues. After surgical removal of the oral mucosa, the oral aspect of

The therapy of traumatized front teeth with ankylosis and additional root resorption is a real challenge for the clinician. Due to the infraposition ankylosed teeth are useless and esthetically unsatisfactory. The progressive replacement resorption and the vertical growth inhibition render an intervention inevitable. In the following case report, the prophylaxis of the alveolar ridge is brought into focus. The treatment of two ankylosed teeth by decoronation, preservation of the alveolar ridge and an implant-supported supraconstruction will be presented. The additional histological assessment

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to evaluate the biomechanical effects of varying sagittal root position (SRP), root length (RL), and cortical bone thickness (CBT) on tooth movement and stress distribution during clear aligner therapy (CAT) in extraction cases, using finite element analysis.
METHODS: Three-dimensional finite element models, including the maxillary alveolar bone, periodontal ligament (PDL), dentition, and clear aligner, were constructed. Groups with varying SRP (labial, middle, and palatal), RL (long, normal, short) and CBT (1 mm, 2 mm) were established. Tooth movement and stres

Orangutans are believed to have close biological affinities to humans. Teeth being the hardest tissue provide useful information on primate evolution. Furthermore, knowledge of the pulp chamber and root canal morphology is important for dental treatment. A female Bornean orangutan and a Sumatran male orangutan skull were available for this study. Both of their dentitions, comprising 50 teeth, were scanned employing the cone-beam computed tomography for both metrical and nonmetrical analyses. Measurements included tooth and crown length, root length, enamel covered crown height, root canal leng

Rothmund-Thomson syndrome (RTS) is a rare autosomal recessive trait disease. It is characterised by skin, eye and skeletal abnormalities. Abnormalities associated with teeth include abnormal crown and root formations, rudimentary or hypoplastic teeth, microdontia and multiple missing teeth. In the present case, there were multiple decayed primary teeth and multiple congenitally missing permanent teeth. Mandibular left primary first molar (tooth 74) was pulpally involved and obturated with mineral trioxide ggregate. Follow-up after 2 years revealed successful obturation.

It was possible to restore the shape and function of a severely ankylosed tooth by fabricating a ceramic crown for placement on a resin reconstruction supported by mini fiberglass posts. By increasing the retention of the morphological reconstruction for the future support of indirect restorations, cementable intradentinal fiberglass posts enhance the longevity of these restorations. Ultimately, all proposals that seek to improve the long-term prognosis of restorations on ankylosed teeth, especially severely impacted ones, are of extreme clinical relevance.

The gingival tissues form the soft tissue frame of the dentition and play an important role in dental aesthetics in the maxillary anterior region of the mouth. Alterations to the form and symmetry of the gingivae through developmental, pathologic or iatrogenic factors can significantly alter the appearance and harmony of the natural dentition or prosthetic tooth replacement. This paper describes the techniques available for the management of gingival recession and for surgical lengthening of the clinical crown with particular emphasis on diagnosis and case selection.
