Sub-crestal positioning of implants results in higher bony crest resorption: an experimental study in dogs.

OBJECTIVE: To compare peri-implant soft- and hard-tissue integration at implants installed juxta- or sub-crestally. Furthermore, differences in the hard and soft peri-implant tissue dimensions at sites prepared with drills or sonic instruments were to be evaluated. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Three months after tooth extraction in six dogs, recipient sites were prepared in both sides of the mandible using conventional drills or a sonic device (Sonosurgery(®)). Two implants with a 1.7-mm high-polished neck were installed, one with the rough/smooth surface interface placed at the level of the buccal

Evaluation of cuspal deflection and microleakage of an incrementally packed versus a low shrinkage bulk-fill nanohybrid resin composite: an in-vitro study.

BACKGROUND: Despite the numerous advantages of using resin-based composite restorations, polymerization shrinkage and the resulting stresses remain significant concerns. These stresses are associated with two critical clinical outcomes: cuspal deflection and microleakage. This study aimed to evaluate the cuspal deflection and microleakage of an incrementally packed nanohybrid and a low-shrinkage bulk-fill resin composite. METHODS: To assess cuspal deflection, 40 maxillary premolars were randomly divided into two groups (n = 20). Standardized mesio-occluso-distal (MOD) cavities were prepared,

Can ultrasonography be used to detect root perforation? An in vitro study.

This study assessed the usability of ultrasonography in detecting root canal perforations. The buccal side of incisor root were perforated. The actual lengths up to the perforation site were measured by visualisation of the tip of a file. Specimens were embedded in gypsum, and it was scraped to simulate bone resorption. Resorption cavities were filled with ultrasound gel. Measurements were taken by advancing a file through the canal until the tip became visible in the ultrasound image. 3D scans were obtained using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and the distance between the coronal point

Clinical strategies for successful palato-mesiobuccal canal management-Report of 2 cases.

AIM: To describe the management of the palato-mesiobuccal (PMB) canal in maxillary second molars with fused roots using conventional techniques. SUMMARY: Root canal treatment success hinges upon effectively addressing the intricate and variable anatomy of molar teeth. Failure to do so can lead to persistent infections and treatment failure. Recent advancements in imaging technologies have provided unparalleled insights into dental anatomy, especially in molars. Among these discoveries is the PMB canal, a unique anatomical variant recently reported for the first time in Endodontic literature.

PTH/PTHrP in controlled release hydrogel enhances orthodontic tooth movement by regulating periodontal bone remodaling.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of local application of parathyroid hormone (PTH) or parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) on osteogenesis and osteoclastogenesis during orthodontic tooth movement (OTM). BACKGROUND: Periodontal bone remodeling is the crucial biological process in the OTM that involves both bone resorption and formation, with the former more important as the initiator. PTH or PTHrP both play dual roles in bone remodeling regulation, and the balance may shift to the bone resorption side when they are given continuously, suggesting them as potential cand

Dynamic Navigation in Endodontics: Guided Access Cavity Preparation by Means of a Miniaturized Navigation System.

In the case of teeth with pulp canal calcification (PCC) and apical pathology or pulpitis, root canal treatment can be very challenging. PCC are common sequelae of dental trauma but can also occur with stimuli such as caries, bruxism, or after placing a restoration. In order to access the root canal as minimally invasive as possible in case of a necessary root canal treatment, dynamic navigation has recently been introduced in endodontics in addition to static navigation. The use of a dynamic navigation system (DNS) requires pre-operative cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging and a digi
