Three enzyme immunoassays were used for the serodiagnosis of Trypanosoma evansi in camels in the Sudan in order to evaluate their ability to discriminate between infected and non-infected animals. Sheep that have been experimentally infected with a strain of Trypanosoma brucei brucei reproduce the clinical symptomatology of human African trypanosomiasis. We measured two biochemical parameters which are altered during the infection; total serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteins, and the time of appearance and levels of IgM in both serum and CSF. A new approach to the culture of African trypanosomes led to the growth of the infective forms of the causative agent of human African trypanosomiasis. Infective cultures of Trypanosoma rhodesiense were initiated and maintained in vitro on Chinese hamster lung cells. Indirect immunoperoxydase method is compared with indirect immunofluorescence using immunized animal and human sera, and negative control sera. The obtained results show a good statisticly established concord and allow to propose the indirect immunoperoxydase method being used in the biological diagnostic of african Trypanosomiasis because its easy carrying out and its examin with an ordinary microscope.
