BACKGROUND: Considerable knowledge about medical comorbidity in cases of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) is available, still it is not well established how extensive the medical investigations should be in individual cases. The aim is to explore proportions of possible specific medical conditions in ASD.

Among 328 patients with dengue hemorrhagic fever/dengue shock syndrome (DHF/DSS), 14 (4 men and 10 women, median age 44 years) had acute abdomen. This study is a first attempt to describe Lebanese women's responses to the medical management of their pregnancy and delivery. We evaluated the diagnostic usefulness of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) in 19 patients with extragastric compression. Patients with carcinoma of the tongue including the base of the tongue who underwent total glossectomy in a period of just over ten years since January 1979 have been reviewed. Total glossectomy may be indicated as salvage surgery or as a primary procedure. The larynx may be preserved or may have to be sacrificed depending upon the site of the lesion. When the larynx is preserved the use of laryngeal suspension facilitates early rehabilitation and preserves the quality of life to a large extent. Cricopharyngeal myotomy seems unnecessary.

The technique and results of both bilateral round ligament, utero-ovarian and uterine artery ligations for excessive hemorrhage in the third stage have been described. The author have performed this procedure, first in 9 monkeys and in 24 women. Unnecessary emergency hysterectomies may be avoided by the use of this method of which the technique is simple, may be rapidly performed and will be more effective than hypogastric or uterine artery ligation. The ovarian and uterine functions were studied and were most often completely restored.

In this era of early treatment for retinopathy of prematurity, sick infants who develop aggressive diseases or remain oxygen and temperature dependent may be treated while they are inside the incubator itself, thus avoiding unnecessary delays. This article describes the treatment of eight infants with retinopathy of prematurity who were dependent on an incubator by using a laser indirect ophthalmoscope delivery system through the slanting transparent wall of the incubator. In this series, which is the largest to date, the relative advantages and disadvantages of the procedure are discussed.

We report a case of extramedullary hematopoiesis presenting as an adrenal mass in a young male with hereditary spherocytosis. The unilateral adrenal mass was discovered during an abdominal ultrasound performed for jaundice. BACKGROUND: Diagnosis and treatment of submandibular lesions is challenging. Carcinomas, which frequently occur, should be surgically removed with sufficient safety margins, while simultaneously protecting functional structures. In particular, the preservation of neuronal structures with simultaneous tumor control suggests that single-stage concepts are appropriate, although they are not yet established. The aim of this study was to evaluate intraoperative frozen section biopsy as a possible basis for a one-stage surgical concept to thus prevent functional alterations by reoperation.
