Overactive bladder (OAB) is still a serious problem because of its high prevalence in men and women. Endoscopic or open detrusor biopsies were obtained from 28 (24 male and 4 female) patients of 52 to 75 years of age with obstructive or idiopathic OAB of 1 to 10 year duration. The control group included 6 males and 2 females without OAB symptoms. Allergic inflammation with involvement of mast cells, parasympathetic element hyperplasia, ultrastructural changes of myocytes with structural damage to mitochondria were detected in the detrusor of patients with both obstructive and idiopathic OAB. A 59-year-old woman with complaints of pollakisuria and dysuria, was referred to our hospital. Magnetic resonance imageing (MRI) revealed a tumor, about 59 mm in diameter. Cystoscopy showed a submucosal tumor covered with a normal mucosa. Histological diagnosis was leiomyoma of the urinary bladder by transurethral biopsy. So we performed complete resection of the tumor. To our knowledge, 30 cases of leiomyoma of the urinary bladder by transurethral resection have been reported in the Japanese literature.

Smooth muscle origin neoplasia of the urinary bladder wall is rare in dogs. This report describes the ultrasonographic features of two bladder wall leiomyomas and one bladder wall leiomyosarcoma. All three dogs had a single, smoothly marginated, round, hypo to mixed echogenicity intraluminal mass in the urinary bladder. Based on color Doppler examination of the masses, there was no visible blood flow.

INTRODUCTION: Leiomyoma of the urinary bladder is a rare, benign tumor of mesenchymal origin. Treatment options are discussed. Besides open surgery and transurethral resection of small, submucosal tumors, laparoscopic excision is an effective therapeutical option with a low complication rate.
CASE REPORT: We report the medical history of a 36-year-old woman suffering from a leiomyoma of the urinary bladder and the therapy through laparoscopic excision.
CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic removal of urinary bladder leiomyomas is a suitable alternative to common therapeutical procedures.

In most cases the foreign body can be removed transurethrally with a pair of grasping forceps. In some cases objects have to be cut or resected into small fragments, making it easier to extract the object or wash it out. An open surgical procedure via suprapubic transvesical approach is reserved for large-sized bodies or in cases when endoscopic methods are unsuccessful. A 20-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for further evaluation on persistent pyuria. Physical examination showed a tender solid suprapubic mass. Computed tomography showed a right ovarian multilocular cystic tumor just above the urinary bladder. Cystoscopy showed pus leakage from an orifice in a hemisphere protrusion of the bladder wall. A small catheter could be inserted into the orifice. It revealed a fistula 4 cm in length between the right ovarian tumor and the vesical cavity.
