MATERIAL AND METHOD: A retrospective study was conducted using data collected from a prospective cohort study of Thai children (PCTC) carried out during 2000-2002, to examine the prevalence of abnormal vision in one-year-olds. SIGNIFICANCE: When fit with monovision, most early presbyopes (aged 40 to 50 years) accommodated to near objects by focusing the distance corrected eye, leaving the near corrected eye myopically defocused with reduced image quality. PURPOSE: To assess binocular control in children with dyslexia.
METHODS: Cross-sectional study with 26 children who were submitted to a set of ophthalmologic and visual tests.
RESULTS: In the dyslexic children less eye movement control in voluntary convergence and unstable binocular fixation was observed.
CONCLUSION: The results support the hypothesis that developmental dyslexia might present deficits which involve the magnocellular pathway and a part of the posterior cortical attentional network.

About 30% of our patients suffering from purely binocular asthenopia showed lower binocular than monocular visual acuity. Cover test examination revealed exophoria at near fixation, which could be regarded to be physiological. A consecutive series of patients with normal activity and a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (10 male and 31 female) underwent extensive ophthalmological examination including visual evoked potentials (VEPs) and a new test of contrast sensitivity, which is described in detail.
