The review discusses literature data on the treatment of keratoconus with intrastromal Myoring implantation into a corneal pocket, formed with a Pocket Maker microkeratome and a femtosecond laser alone and in combination with cross-linking of corneal collagen. The method shows high effectiveness as to refractive and functional outcomes and stabilization of keratoconus over the whole follow-up period (more than 3 years).

A 33-year-old woman with irregular astigmatism 6 years after radial keratotomy (RK) for keratoconus was treated with implantation of a single intrastromal corneal ring segment (Keraring) using the femtosecond laser. PURPOSE: A 26-year-old man with superior pellucid marginal corneal degeneration associated with poor visual acuity due to irregular astigmatism was treated with single-segment intracorneal ring insertion.
METHODS: Preoperatively the patient's uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was 0.05, best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) was 0.15, and manifest refraction was -4.50 x 85 in the left eye. The flattest meridian (K1) measured was 38.50 x 90 and the steepest meridian (K2) was 51.10 x 30.

BACKGROUND: Despite reported successes with progressive addition lenses, lined multifocals remain the lens of choice for previous lined multifocal wearers.
METHODS: To explore the feasibility of switching lined multifocal wearers to PALs, in a prospective clinical trial we interviewed 265 lined multifocal wearers, prescribed a new PAL (Varilux Comfort) and then interviewed them again to compare the lens types and patient preferences.
RESULTS: PALs ranked significantly higher than lined multifocals for all questions and were preferred by 92 percent of the patients.
