An increase in the awareness of the problem of gunshot fatalities in children has occurred nationwide over the last year. Unintentional firearm deaths are more common among children and young adults. These deaths may be addressed by preventive measures beyond those available for pediatric firearm suicide and homicide. This study focuses on the incidence of fatal gunshot injuries in children under 16 years of age during the years 1979 through 1987 in our state. UNLABELLED: This is a single-center cross-sectional study of consecutive patients who presented to an urban emergency department (ED) with firearm injuries between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2016. A 33-year-old woman received a conjunctival laceration after accidental contact with the flexible outlet tip of a tank of compressed helium while filling balloons. The gas discharged during the contact, blowing compressed helium into her right orbit, with intracranial extension. The patient was asymptomatic, except for a transient headache. She was treated with prophylactic antibiotics and observed overnight, then discharged without complication. A literature search reveals that the usual outcome for this mechanism of injury is favorable.

A 20 year-old male driver of a heavy duty crane, employed in an industry located in an industrial area on the outskirts of Delhi was fatally injured while repositioning an ill-fitted locking rim of a crane tyre (Fig. 1). The inner tube of the crane tyre had accidentally burst, dislodging the loose iron-locking rim, which hit the individual with a great force resulting in multiple injuries. He died on his way to the hospital.

A pyogenic granuloma of the cornea developed on the vascularized cornea of a 79-year-old woman after "snake oil" accidentally dripped in her eye. The snake oil was being used to relieve forehead pain, which may have been referred. The five previously reported examples of corneal pyogenic granuloma are similar to this case in that trauma preceded development of the lesion. However, the chemical trauma induced by the snake oil appears to be a unique mechanism of injury.

The first case of mycetoma caused by Nocardia brasiliensis from the Union Territory of Delhi is reported. The patient, a permanent resident of the Union Territory of Delhi, acquired the disease 10 years ago following an accidental injury to his right hand. The diagnosis of the case was made on the basis of demonstration of the grains in direct microscopy, isolation of the organism in culture directly from the grains, identifying the organism by the conventional tests and through histopathology of the biopsy from the affected portion.

A case of accidental inhalation of liquid nitrogen vapor is reported. The patient, a 29-year-old man, developed acute burns of his lips and oropharynx and presented with signs and symptoms of acute upper airway distress within an hour of the injury. The patient underwent emergency tracheostomy and was placed on intravenous dexamethasone and ampicillin. Large mucosal ulcers developed in the posterior hypopharynx and hard palate but the patient was discharged four days post operatively and had no permanent sequelae.

A harpoon accidentally entered the right eye of a 15-year-old boy. No loss of consciousness occurred. After neuro-radiological assessment, the object which had penetrated the sphenoid sinuses was removed without mishap. He made a good recovery but has, as permanent deficits, an inferotemporal field defect, diminished visual acuity with optic atrophy, a sensory pupillary defect and right ptosis. The need for hospitalisation and a team approach to penetrating injuries of the face is discussed.
