Anterior megalophthalmos usually presents early in life with megalocornea, deep anterior chamber, raised intraocular pressure, glaucomatous optic nerve damage and iridodonesis/stromal thinning with positive family history. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the efficacy of argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) in patients with aphakia or pseudophakia.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The authors retrospectively analyzed 63 eyes of 63 patients with aphakia or pseudophakia who had uncontrolled open-angle glaucoma and were treated with 180 degrees or 360 degrees ALT.

A socio-epidemiological assessment of what happens to the visual outcome after camp-based intracapsular cataract extraction was conducted in 6 villages and periurban areas in North India. 120 patients (143 eyes) were included in the study. The mean age at cataract extraction was 64.39 (range 33-83 years). 44.7% of the operated eyes obtained a good vision ( > or = 6/18) while 39.9% had low vision (6/24-3/60). PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of a modified technique of transscleral fixation of posterior chamber intraocular lenses (IOLs) in the management of unilateral aphakia and in cases of IOL exchange.

IOP was retrospectively studied in 229 consecutive cases of PK, with a mean follow-up period of 84 weeks. Twenty-seven percent of the cases had preoperative glaucoma, three-fourths of which were medically controlled prior to keratoplasty. Intraocular lenses are known to be efficacious in the correction of aphakia, but their suitability and durability in Army aviators has not been previously evaluated. Eight experienced pilots (preoperative flight time average: 7,660 hours), who had intraocular lens implants following removal of cataractus lenses, were studied. The correction of paediatric traumatic aphakia remains a controversial topic. This study examines retrospectively the visual outcome in 32 children with uniocular traumatic cataracts. Fifteen received intraocular lens implants following lensectomy, and 17 received aphakic contact lenses. Age range was 2-14 1/2 years at the time of injury. The maximum follow-up time was 13 years. Hard lenses, corneal and scleral, are still useful in correcting ametropia. They offer better visual acuity and increased field of vision in high myopia, irregular astigmatism, and aphakia. Since their chemical and physical properties are reliable they are likely to be used for some time to come.
