INTRODUCTION: Intracranial neoplasms are an uncommon cause of symptomatic parkinsonism. We here report a patient with an extensive middle and posterior fossa arachnoid cyst presenting with parkinsonism that was treated by neurosurgical intervention.
METHODS: Retrospective chart review and clinical examination of the patient.
CASE REPORT: This 55-year-old male patient with hemiparkinsonism and recurrent bouts of headaches was first diagnosed in 1988. CT scans revealed multiple cystic lesions compressing brainstem and basal ganglia, which were partially resected. Subsequently, the patient was

BACKGROUND: Posterior fossa arachnoid cysts are often asymptomatic, but can rarely cause postural headache, the mechanism of which remains unknown.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We present a 40-year-old woman with an asymptomatic supracerebellar arachnoid cyst. Upright computed tomography (CT) showed enlargement of the arachnoid cyst and caudal descent of the cerebellum compared with supine CT with narrowing of the craniocervical junction cerebrospinal fluid space.
CONCLUSIONS: This finding aids in understanding the association of posterior fossa arachnoid cysts with orthostatic headache. Clinicians sho

INTRODUCTION: Endodermal cysts are congenital benign cystic lesions in the central nervous system and cause various symptoms. Although some have been reported in the posterior fossa, endodermal cysts located dorsal to the brainstem are extremely rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: The case was of a 10-year-old girl who presented with bilateral upper limb weakness and tremor. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a 4.5-cm cystic lesion with T1-weighted hypointense and T2-weighted hyperintense content in the midline of the cisterna magna dorsal to the medulla oblongata. The cyst was cerebrospinal fluid-

INTRODUCTION: Endoscopic fenestration remains a first-line treatment option for symptomatic arachnoid cysts. After fenestration, the cyst does not collapse but reaches an equilibrium state. The aim of this study was to evaluate the change in cyst volume following successful fenestration and symptomatic improvement.
METHODS: Cyst volume was measured on serial MR scans of 4 children (1 female, 3 males) with symptomatic arachnoid cysts (middle fossa n = 2, choroidal fissure n = 1 and posterior fossa n = 1), who experienced symptom resolution after endoscopic fenestration. Average follow-up was 2

Iatrogenic lumbar arachnoid cysts are a rare occurrence after intradural surgery.1,2 To our knowledge, there is only 1 other previous case reported in the literature contributing to a symptomatic tethered cord.3 We present a surgical video (Video 1) demonstrating the history, preoperative workup, and operative technique for exploration and fenestration of a symptomatic iatrogenic lumbar arachnoid cyst with a tethered cord. The patient is a 57-year-old female with a history of a closed neural tube defect with a lipoma that was resected over 20 years before her evaluation. She was lost to follow

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous spinal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is extremely rare and occurs in <1% of all cases of SAH. To the best of our knowledge, only 1 case of spontaneous spinal SAH with later development of a symptomatic spinal arachnoid cyst (SAC) has been described in the literature to date. The objective of the present study was to report the challenging clinical management of SAC based on a literature review.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We report the case of a 51-year-old woman with acute onset of back pain, neck pain, and headaches with an angiogram-negative supratentorial SAH. Further magnet

BACKGROUND: Spinal cystic arachnoiditis is a rare complication of a subarachnoid haemorrhage or infectious meningitis. The inflammatory process leads to fibrosis, adhesions, and in severe cases cyst formation. Large arachnoid cysts are an uncommon cause of compressive myelopathy. The majority are located posterior of the spinal cord at the thoracic level. Anterior cyst formation is exceptional, especially at the cervical region.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We present 2 cases of progressive myelopathy secondary to anterior arachnoid cyst formation. In a 54-year-old female a large anterior symptomatic th…

Intracranial arachnoid cysts need to be operated on when they are causing symptoms and aesthetic problems. The aim of this case report was to describe a new method of reconstructing the skull by eliminating a left frontal bone deformity by turning the inside out and the outside inward, which provided good aesthetics and protected the region of surgical interest after the removal of an arachnoid cyst of the left frontal lobe.

BACKGROUND: Suprasellar arachnoid cysts (SAC) represent between 9% and 21% of pediatric arachnoid cysts. Recent improvements in magnetic resonance imaging, as well as increasing prenatal diagnosis, have allowed more precise knowledge and follow-up.
OBJECTIVE: To describe a novel classification of SAC.
METHODS: We present 35 cases of SAC treated between 1996 and 2014. Patient records and imaging studies were reviewed retrospectively to assess symptomatology, radiological findings, treatment, and long-term follow-up.
RESULTS: Fourteen SAC were diagnosed prenatally (39%). We observed 15 (43%)

INTRODUCTION: Brain herniations (BH) into arachnoid granulations (AG) in dural venous sinuses and calvarium have rarely been reported in the literature.
METHODS: MRIs of 38 patients with BH into AG (BHAG) were retrospectively analyzed. Locations of BHAG, gyrus/lobe of the herniated brain, parenchymal abnormalities of the BH, and clinical and radiological conditions with raised intracranial pressure were recorded.
RESULTS: Sixty-eight BHAG were found, by order of frequency, in the occipital squama (OS), transverse sinus (TS), lateral lacuna of the superior sagittal sinus (LLSSS), and straight

Arachnoid cysts are defined as an accumulation of fluid within the arachnoid membrane. Feline intracranial arachnoid cysts are seldom reported, with only three cases in the veterinary literature. A 1-year-old male neutered European cat with a 24 h history of seizures was presented to the small animal neurology department at Vetagro Sup, Lyon. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a large intracranial arachnoid cyst ventral to the brain in the left temporal area. Cystoperitoneal shunt placement resulted in complete resolution of the cyst without recurrence (follow-up MRIs 3 weeks and 21 mon

Suprasellar arachnoid cysts can have varied presentations with signs and symptoms of obstructive hydrocephalus, visual impairment, endocrinal dysfunction, gait ataxia and rarely bobble-head doll movement. The bobble-head doll movement is a rare movement disorder characterized by antero-posterior bobbling of the head and neck on the trunk every 2-3 seconds. We present three cases with bobble-head doll syndrome associated with a large suprasellar arachnoid cyst and obstructive hydrocephalus, which were treated with endoscopic cystoventriculocisternostomy and marsupialization of the cyst.

OBJECT Some pediatric patients with middle cranial fossa arachnoid cysts present with symptoms of increased intracranial pressure (ICP) and require shunt placement after a cyst fenestration. However, factors concerning increased ICP after fenestration followed by shunt placement have not been elucidated. This study evaluated factors that are associated with shunt placement following cyst fenestration in pediatric patients with middle cranial fossa arachnoid cysts. METHODS Twenty-six pediatric patients with middle cranial fossa arachnoid cysts who were surgically treated at a single institution

A less invasive transsphenoidal approach with a keyhole dural opening for intrasellar arachnoid cysts is described. This approach was used to address seven sellar cystic lesions with suprasellar extension; they were six intrasellar arachnoid cysts (IACs) and one Rathke's cleft cyst (RCC). In all cases, preoperative MRI revealed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) intensity on both T1- and T2-weighted images. On preoperative contrast-enhanced MRI, five of the six IACs manifested posterior displacement of the flattened pituitary gland toward the dorsum sellae; one of the six IACs and the RCC exhibited a f

Intradural arachnoid cysts are a rare cause of spinal cord compression. In symptomatic cases neuropathic pain, gait disturbance, and paraparesis or quadriparesis are often present. Postoperative arachnoid cysts have rarely been reported. We describe a 56-year-old male who developed progressively enlarging arachnoid cysts with cauda equina syndrome and vertebral body erosion after lumbar surgery. The clinical presentation of the patient, the possible mechanisms of cyst formation, and the management of the disease are discussed with regard to previous literature.

BACKGROUND: Dyke-Davidoff-Masson Syndrome (DDMS) is a rarely seen clinical entity which is characterised by cerebral hemiatrophy, contralateral hemiparesis and epilepsy. Radiological features are typical, such as unilateral atrophy of the cerebral hemisphere and associated compensatory bone changes in the skull, like thickening, enlargement of the paranasal sinuses and mastoid air cells.
CASE REPORT: In this article, we report the first case of DDMS associated with epidermoid tumour and arachnoid cyst, who underwent operation for an epidermoid tumour in the inter-hemispheric region. To our kn
