Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) is a safe innovative tool for investigating obscure gastrointestinal bleeding, Crohn's disease and other small bowel pathologies. The capsule is usually excreted with faeces within 24-48 h. Retention of capsule rarely occurs, and it usually depends on the indication of VCE. Capsule endoscopy is a novel tool for the diagnosis of small intestinal disorders. Recently, a new complication of the procedure in the form of the capsule's aspiration into the lungs has been reported. The aspiration of capsule endoscope can lead to a variety of complications including respiratory failure. A low threshold to suspect this complication and urgent bronchoscopic extraction in appropriate patients can prevent serious sequelae.

Wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) uses an electronic small bowel capsule to transmit images of the small bowel to diagnose pathology. In patients at risk for capsule retention, the patency capsule, a radiopaque dissolvable capsule of the same size, may be used to predict that the small bowel capsule will pass through the patient. A case of lye ingestion by a suicidal patient in the form of Drano in capsules is reported. Although lye ingestion usually causes lesions in the oropharynx and severe esophagitis, in our patient it produced severe gastritis with minimal esophageal findings because of the protective capsules which dissolved primarily in the stomach. Capsule endoscopy is an established diagnostic modality for small bowel evaluation, particularly in Crohn's disease. Capsule retention remains its most significant complication, especially in patients with stricturing disease. PURPOSE: Hookworm infection is one of the causes of long-term chronic hemorrhagic anemia in patients. This article reports a case of chronic severe anemia caused by hookworm infection.
METHODS: The capsule endoscopy showed that there were a large number of hookworms in the small intestine of a patient. At the same time, using the technique of saturated brine floatation and the automatic stool analyzer, hookworm eggs were detected.
