OBJECTIVE: Canine leishmaniasis (CanL) is an important public and veterinary health problem in Mediterranean Basin countries. In this study, we aimed to determine the seroprevalence of CanL in several provinces of Northern Cyprus.
METHODS: The seroprevalence of CanL was determined by the indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) test in dog sera. In total, 281 dogs were randomly selected from Nicosia (n=80), Trikomo (n=58), Famagusta (n=60), Morphou (n=30), and Kyrenia (n=53), consistent with a statistically representative number of the regional dog population.

This retrospective study determined the prevalence of dermatological lesions associated with canine leishmaniasis (CanL) in a nonendemic area in Italy. The medical records of 131 dogs with CanL were reviewed and, of these, 115/131 dogs (88%) had dermatological manifestations of which 100/131 dogs (76%) met the inclusion criteria. We report a retrospective analysis of 11 children with Down syndrome (DS) treated by SCT in eight German/Austrian SCT centres. Indications for transplantation were acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (N=8) and acute myeloid leukaemia (N=3). A reduced intensity conditioning (RIC) containing 2 Gy TBI was given to two patients, another five received a myeloablative regimen with 12 Gy TBI. To grasp the clinical characteristics, treatment and prognosis of trichloroethylene medicamentose-like dermatitis, seven hospitalized cases were analyzed in detail. The disease has various manifestations, among them, those accompanied by hepatitis or renal diseases are crucial. Adequate dose of corticosteroid hormone in earlier period could effectively control the patient's condition. Besides paying close attention to changes of the patient's skin, we should also keep an eye for the changes of the liver and kidneys and their relevant indices, as different patients have different prognoses.
