Perioral dermatitis is a relatively common inflammatory disorder of facial skin, often appearing in patients with rosacea, but with less inflammation. A total of 149 elderly men and women with pruritic skin problems were selected for study at the dermatological clinic in the Department of Medicine, Rajavithi General Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand, from 26 November 1996 to 10 January 1997. There were 62 men (41.6%) and 87 women (58.4%). The average age was seventy years. Among these elderly patients, pruritic skin disease was the most common problem, found in about 41%. UNLABELLED: The cause of seborrhoeic dermatitis (SD) is still unknown, although many attempts have been made to relate it to infection by Malassezia. Recently Midgley, Gueho & Guillot revised the genus Malassezia to 7 species. We detected Malassezia spores by direct counting using cellotape stripped skin of healthy students or patients; we also cultured Malassezia from these subjects. The case history is presented of a woman with acquired lesions in the axillary, submammary, intermammary, inguinal, genitocrural and perianal skin folds. These lesions were confluent pigmented macules, giving rise to extensive (en nappe) reticulate patches. History revealed changes typical of seborrhoeic wart.
