β-Human chorionic gonadotropin (βhCG) assays are routinely used to test for pregnancy. However, βhCG may be elevated in conditions other than pregnancy. We report a case of bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) infection of an axillary-femoral bypass graft presenting approximately 10 months after the initiation of intravesicular bacillus Calmette-Guérin for the treatment of bladder cancer. It is recommended that full-length femoral radiographs should be obtained in patients presenting with a femoral neck fracture and a co-existent history of malignancy. Over a two-year period, we identified 133 (47 males, 86 females) patients admitted with a femoral neck fracture and a co-existent history of malignant disease, representing 6.5% of all femoral neck fractures admitted within this time frame. AIM: To evaluate the feasibility and safety of the intraarterial chemotherapy of the liver cancer by an interventional method, catheter-port system.
METHODS: Thirty-two catheter-port systems were implanted percutaneously via the femoral artery or subclavian artery. Aggressive juxta-articular giant cell tumours of the lower limbs occurring in young patients are a challenge to the average orthopaedic surgeon. We report on 3 cases of femoral neuropathy following radical surgery for urologic malignancy. The defect was bilateral in 2 patients. Compression from self-retaining retractors was the presumed mechanism of injury in all patients. Spontaneous improvement was observed in each case although the symptoms did not resolve completely. The pathophysiology contributing to this operative complication as well as measures for prevention and treatment are discussed.

Ninety-three consecutive prosthetic reconstructions performed for limb salvage after the resection of sarcomas of the lower extremity were reviewed to determine how long the reconstructions lasted, how successful they were in avoiding amputation in the long term, how significant a problem was aseptic loosening, and what was the associated patient survival. En-bloc resection, extracorporeal irradiation and re-implantation of the irradiated bone have been used to treat 15 patients suffering from primary malignant tumours of bone or cartilage and two with benign lesions. This treatment is an alternative to replacement by prosthesis or allograft bridging techniques. After a mean follow-up of over five years results are encouraging, despite some complications and the relatively long period before weight-bearing is allowed.
