Colorimetric and fluorescent dual-identification of glutathione based on its inhibition on the 3D ball-flower shaped Cu-hemin-MOF's peroxidase-like activity.

Hemin as the organic linker ligand and Cu (II) as the metal center were applied to prepare a copper-metal-organic framework (Cu-hemin-MOF) via one-step hydrothermal method. Characterization using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) demonstrate that the acquired Cu-hemin-MOF possesses the appearance of 3D ball-flower shape with the existence of C, N, O, Fe, and Cu on the surface. Further study found that this 3D ball-flower shaped Cu-hemin-MOF exhibits peroxidase-like acti

Biogenic synthesis of MgO nanoparticles from different extracts (flower, bark, leaf) of Tecoma stans (L.) and their utilization in selected organic dyes treatment.

The occurrence and influence of dyes-containing effluents are alarmingly serious; hence, the treatment of such wastewater needs to be undertaken. Here, we report the biosynthesis strategy and utilisation of MgO nanoparticles (MgO NPs) from distinct Tecoma stans (L.) plant extracts (flower, bark, and leaf). The FT-IR spectroscopy revealed the dominance of chemical bonds as well as functional groups on MgO NPs surfaces. For adsorption experiments, the impact of pH, contact time, concentration, and pH on uptake efficiency of congo red (CR) and crystal violet (CV) dyes were investigated and then o

A role for the miR396/GRF network in specification of organ type during flower development, as supported by ectopic expression of Populus trichocarpa miR396c in transgenic tobacco.

The MIR396 family, composed of ath-miR396a and ath-miR396b in Arabidopsis, is conserved among plant species and is known to target the Growth-Regulating Factor (GRF) gene family. ath-miR396 overexpressors or grf mutants are characterised by small and narrow leaves and show embryogenic defects such as cotyledon fusion. Heterologous expression of ath-miR396a has been reported in tobacco and resulted in reduction of the expression of three NtGRF genes. In this study, the precursor of the Populus trichocarpa ptc-miR396c, with a mature sequence identical to ath-miR396b, was expressed under control

Transcriptional and post-translational regulation of S-adenosyl-L-methionine: salicylic acid carboxyl methyltransferase (SAMT) during Stephanotis floribunda flower development.

Methyl salicylate (MeSA) and a number of other volatiles are primarily emitted in the evening/night by Stephanotis floribunda leading to attraction of night active pollinators. A second minor emission peak for MeSA occurs in the morning/day. To understand these emission patterns, we have studied in detail the temporal regulation of the last step of the biosynthetic pathway of MeSA, the convertion of salicylic acid (SA) to MeSA catalysed by S-adenosyl-L-methionine: salicylic acid carboxyl methyltransferase (SAMT). We observed that in young flowers a maximum in SAMT activity occurs in the night,…

Dietary intake of the flower extracts of German chamomile (Matricaria recutita L.) inhibited compound 48/80-induced itch-scratch responses in mice.

The antipruritic effects of the diets containing German chamomile on the compound 48/80-induced scratching in ddY mice were examined. Since it is reported that an injection of compound 48/80, but not histamine, induced scratching behaviour due to itch but not to pain in ddY mice (Kuraishi et al., 1995), compound 48/80-induced scratching in ddY mice seems to be a suitable parameter for evaluating antipruritic agents independent of histamine receptor antagonism. In the mice fed the diet containing 1.2 w/w % of the ethyl acetate extract of dried flower of German chamomile (Matricaria recutita L.)

The schistosomicidal activity of ethanolic extracts from branches, leaves, flowers and fruits of Handroanthus impetiginosus (Mart. ex DC.) Mattos (Bignoniaceae) plant and metabolic profile characterization by UPLC-ESI-QTOF analysis.

Schistosomiasis, caused by Schistosoma mansoni Sambon, 1907, is a severe and widely distributed parasitic disease, affecting about 200 million people worldwide. The disease is recognized by elevated mortality rates, especially among those living in areas of poor sanitation. Currently, the chemotherapeutic treatment is solely based on using the praziquantel drug. Therefore, there is a need for the discovery of new medicines for the treatment of this parasitosis. Thus, this work aimed to evaluate the schistosomicidal activity of ethanolic crude extracts from the branches, leaves, flowers, and fr…

Liquid Chromatography Coupled With High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry Profiling of Metabolites in Cassia alata Flower Extracts and Their DPPH Free Radical Scavenging Activity.

Cassia alata flowers remain phytochemically under-characterized relative to the leaves. However, floral tissues can harbour distinct and, in some species, more abundant phenolic and flavonoid profiles, representing an unexploited source of antioxidant phytochemicals with potential functional-food and nutraceutical relevance. Also, Cassia alata L. (Fabaceae) is a major source of numerous anthraquinones and flavonoids, yet the secondary metabolome of its floral tissues has not yet been thoroughly studied in comparison to its vegetative parts. This research therefore aimed to examine the phytocon…

Topology-engineered dopamine-mediated flower-like gold nanoparticle adjuvants: Boosting immune responses and enabling sensitive immunoassays for albendazole residue detection.

BACKGROUND: Albendazole (ABZ) exhibited teratogenic and embryotoxic effects in diverse animal species, implying comparable risks to humans; residues derived from improper veterinary use can enter the food chain via transfer, ultimately endangering human health. To obtain efficient anti-albendazole (ABZ) monoclonal antibodies and establish a sensitive detection sensor, we prepared a novel nano-adjuvant, topologically engineered dopamine-mediated flower-like gold nanoparticles (PANFs), for stimulating immune responses. Computer-aided techniques simulated antigen-antibody recognition sites. Immun

Nanoscale 3D anatomy of the western flower thrips reproductive system revealed by volume electron microscopy: extreme miniaturization and evolutionary adaptations for pest fecundity†.

Frankliniella occidentalis (western flower thrips) is a globally destructive pest causing major crop losses via oviposition, feeding, and plant virus transmission. Previous work has focused on its reproductive physiology and behavior, but comprehensive 3D structural knowledge remains limited. We used volume electron microscopy to achieve nanoscale 3D visualization of the reproductive systems in both sexes, providing the first high-resolution, in situ reconstruction, and establishing a new anatomical framework for insect reproductive physiology. Males exhibit extreme miniaturization, with repro

Genome-wide association of flowering phenology stages in olive trees (Olea europaea L.): new insights from BLUPs and genotype × environment responses.

BACKGROUND: Fractures of the distal femur present significant challenges in orthopaedic trauma due to their complex anatomy, biomechanical demands, and potential complications such as malunion, non union, and stiffness. These fractures, though relatively rare (accounting for 6-7% of femur fractures), are associated with high morbidity, particularly in elderly osteoporotic patients and younger individuals with high-energy trauma. This study evaluates the role of multi lock retrograde intramedullary nailing-a minimally invasive fixation method-in the management of these fractures, focusing on fu

Tunable self-assembly hierarchical superstructures of benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamide-containing fullerene block molecules: from flower to urchin and rod-like morphologies.

The precise modulation of different hierarchical superstructures relying on the synergy of multiple noncovalent interactions between basic building units is both elusive and highly desirable. Herein, we report a series of novel benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamide (BTA)-containing fullerene block molecules with different alkyl spacer and tail chain lengths, which could self-assemble into diverse hierarchical superstructures in selective solvents, forming flower, urchin, or rod-like morphologies based on the π-π interactions between fullerene moieties and threefold hydrogen bonds between BTA units.
