Hemostatic effects of third- and second-generation oral contraceptives: absence of a causal mechanism for a difference in risk of venous thromboembolism.

Some observational studies have found a difference in the risk of nonfatal venous thromboembolism (VTE) with low-dose, oral contraceptives (OCs) containing desogestrel (DSG) or gestodene (GSD) and those containing levonorgestrel (LNG). However, this does not agree with current pathophysiological concepts. This review compares all 17 comparative studies on the hemostatic effects of DSG/GSD- and LNG- or norgestimate (NGM)-containing OCs, and comments on two recent cross-sectional studies on the effects of third- and second-generation OCs on activated protein C (APC) sensitivity. In the comparati

Hemostatic agents: brain tissue reaction and effectiveness. A comparative animal study using collagen fleece and oxidized cellulose.

In a series of 26 young rabbits, three cortical lesions were made in each hemisphere. Two of these holes were filled with collagen fleece (CF) and oxidized cellulose (OC), respectively, while the third was left empty as a control. The bleeding time was measured. Hemostasis with CF was statistically significantly faster than with OC, which in turn was statistically significantly faster than with no hemostatic agent. The animals were killed successively on Days 7, 14, 28, 42, and 241 after operation. Histopathological investigation showed that CF did not induce more tissue reaction that the cont

Nanometric Faujasite (FAU) Zeolite Ion-Exchanged With Metal Ions for Hemostatic and Antimicrobial Applications: A Thromboelastographic and Microbiological Study.

Integrating antimicrobial functionality with the intrinsic clot-promoting properties of zeolites represents a promising strategy for next-generation wound-care materials, where rapid hemorrhage control must be coupled with infection prevention. Here, we investigate nanocrystalline Faujasite (NanoFAU) and its ion-exchanged derivatives to elucidate how extra-framework cation identity governs the balance between hemostatic and antimicrobial performance. NanoFAU samples exchanged with Ag+, Ba2 +, Ca2 +, and Mg2 + were comprehensively characterized by XRD, SEM/HRTEM/EDS, AFM, BET surface area analy

Dual-mode rapid hemostatic materials composed of gelatin and carboxymethyl cellulose for non-compressible bleeding in spinal surgery.

Spinal surgery, particularly spinal decompression and fusion surgery, commonly encounters intraoperative bleeding. Deep bleeding in the narrow operative area (e.g. bone marrow cavity and venous plexus) is a significant challenge for achieving accurate hemostasis with traditional strategies, posing a life-threatening risk. Herein, a novel dual-form hemostatic material (CMC-Gelatin, CG) composed of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and gelatin is developed for non-compressible hemostasis in spinal surgery. For minor bleeding, CG in powder form reduces blood loss by 69.06% within a mouse bleeding mod

Continuous carbon dioxide flow via a modified 4-way stopcock to prevent hemostatic spray catheter clogging.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Clogging of the Hemospray catheter (TC-325 Hemospray; Cook Medical, Bloomington, Ind, USA) is a common technical challenge, particularly when the tip becomes wet during endoscopic procedures, leading to interruption of hemostasis. A prior solution described a modified airflow connection to prevent occlusion. We developed a simplified, reproducible method using commercially available carbon dioxide (CO2) insufflation devices and tubing, connected via a 4-way stopcock to provide continuous CO2 flow through the Hemospray catheter. METHODS: The assembly incorporated commercia

Development of an innovative cost-effective hemostatic material based on electrospun polyacrylonitrile/exfoliated bentonite/calcium chloride nanocomposite.

Anti-hemorrhage nanomaterials are emerging as a promising alternative to traditional materials such as cotton and medical gauze, which often exhibit limited hemostatic properties and excessive adhesion to wound surfaces. This study presents the development of hemostatic nanofiber mats fabricated from polyacrylonitrile (PAN) via electrospinning. The incorporation into these mats of cost-effective and eco-friendly hemostatic agents, specifically exfoliated bentonite and calcium chloride, is investigated. Structural characterization using X-ray diffraction (XRD) reveals significant alterations in

Endothelial dysfunction and hemostatic imbalance in CAR T-cell-associated toxicities: pathophysiological insights and the role of circulating biomarkers.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has revolutionized the treatment of relapsed or refractory hematologic malignancies. While its clinical efficacy is well established, CAR T-cell therapy is frequently associated with severe immune-mediated toxicities, including cytokine release syndrome (CRS), immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS), coagulopathy, and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis-like syndrome (IEC-HS). Increasing evidence suggests that endothelial dysfunction, hemostatic imbalance, and complement activation are key contributors to the pathogenesis of

Preparation of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Loaded Hemostatic Peptide Pentaerythritol Triacrylate Microspheres and Its Embolic Properties In Vivo.

Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) represents an interventional radiology technique that combines targeted chemotherapy with vascular occlusion. This procedure involves administering chemotherapy-impregnated embolic agents via microcatheters directly into tumor-feeding arteries, achieving dual therapeutic effects through sustained drug release and mechanical obstruction of the vascular supply to malignant lesions. In this study, pentaerythritol triacrylate (PETA) was used as the raw material, and PETA drug-loaded embolization microspheres with hemostatic, magnetic responsiveness,
