A fast flotation method for determination of cadmium and lead in aquatic systems by two chromium(III) collectors is described. The first collector is a colloid precipitate of hydrated chromium(III) oxide, Cr2O3 x xH2O, while the second is a bulk chromium(III) pentamethylenedithiocarbamate, Cr(PMDTC)3. Cyanide formation by microorganisms is typically observed during early stationary growth phase and is facilitated by the presence of iron(III) and inorganic phosphate. Extracellular free cyanide in aqueous solutions might readily react with methemoglobin added and can be determined by UV/VIS spectroscopy. A simple, robust and sensitive sequential injection spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of penicillamine (PA) in pharmaceutical formulations is developed. The method is based on the formation of a highly fluorescent derivative when penicillamine is reacted with fluorescamine (FL) in borate buffer of pH 9.3. The removal of Cr(VI) by zero-valent iron (Fe(0)) and the effect of three complex reagents, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), NaF and 1,10-phenanthroline, on this reaction were investigated using batch reactors at pH values of 4, 5 and 6. The results indicate that the removal of Cr(VI) by Fe(0) is slow at pH 5.0 and that three complex reagents play different roles in the reaction. EDTA and NaF significantly enhance the reaction rate. A comprehensive method for simultaneous determination of methylmercury (MeHg) and ethylmercury (EtHg) in rice by capillary gas chromatography (GC) coupled on-line with atomic fluorescence spectrometry was developed. A column of analcime zeolite modified with benzyldimethyltetradecylammonium chloride and loaded with 2-(5-bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-diethylaminophenol (5-Br-PADAP) was used for retention of cadmium.
