Chronic Wounds and Dressings: An Overview of Management and Effectiveness.

Chronic wounds are complex conditions categorized into pressure injuries, diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and arterial ulcers. In managing these wounds, the selection of appropriate wound care products is of critical importance. Commonly used dressings include hydrocolloid, hydrogel, alginate, foam, and silver-containing dressings. Effective wound management requires addressing systemic causes, selecting suitable wound care products, and fostering collaboration within a multidisciplinary team. Looking ahead, nanotechnology and biotechnological innovations promise to revolutionize chro

Anterior tibial artery pseudoaneurysm due to interlocking bolt of tibial nail: A case report and review.

Vascular injuries associated with the tibial nailing have been reported in few case reports. We here report a unique case of anterior tibial artery (ATA) pseudoaneurysm caused by the second proximal coronal interlocking bolt. We found that the position of interlocking bolts on the nail brings them very close to the anatomical positions of arteries in leg. The reports of ATA injury by interlocking bolts highlight the need for reconsidering the nail design and screw hole positions.

Imaging Review of Hockey-related Lower Extremity Injuries.

Hockey is a fast-paced contact sport with a high incidence of injuries. Although injuries are more frequent among elite players, recreational hockey injuries are a common issue faced by primary care and emergency physicians. Lower extremity injuries in hockey are particularly important because they account for approximately a third of all injuries and > 60% of all overuse injuries. This pictorial review provides the general and specialty trained radiologist with a knowledge of the patterns of lower extremity injury that occur in ice hockey.

Recurrent dislocation of the peroneal tendon.

Recurrent dislocation of the peroneal tendons is an important, although infrequent, cause of disability of the ankle. We used a simple procedure that corrects the basic deformity of a shallow peroneal groove, without the use of metallic fixation or transfer of a tendon or ligament. The groove for the tendons is deepened by removal of some inner fibular substance, while the smooth tenosynovial channel is maintained as an intact periosteal flap on the fibula. The technique was used successfully in ten cases.

Readiness for Return to Dance After Lower Extremity Injury in the Female Dancer: A Modified Delphi Study.

The aim of this paper is to establish consensus among subject area experts on readiness criteria for return to dance (RTD) in female dancers after forced time loss due to lower extremity injury. Recommendations for RTD protocols have previously been published, which generally guide the dancer to progress from barre work to center. However, the question of when to initiate an RTD protocol can be a complex decision itself. We performed a modified, 2-round Delphi study among a diverse group of experts who work closely with preprofessional and professional dancers. Criteria for RTD that achieved ≥

Case report: Retrogenicular popliteal artery pseudoaneurysm following trivial knee hyperextension.

INTRODUCTION: Popliteal artery pseudoaneurysm is rare after blunt trauma without associated bone fracture, usually presenting in a delayed fashion. We present a case of early presentation following minor civilian trauma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 66-year-old man presented with left leg pain and swelling after a trivial knee hyperextension injury. Ultrasound revealed a popliteal artery pseudoaneurysm, confirmed by CT angiogram. Open surgical repair with interposition graft was successful. Intraoperatively, a 3 cm linear laceration in the retrogenicular popliteal artery and ipsilateral hamstring tea

Assessing gait changes in firefighters after firefighting activities and while carrying asymmetric loads.

One of the most common causes of injuries among firefighters is slips, trips, and falls on the fireground. Acute fatigue from firefighting activities and/or carrying asymmetric loads might impact gait characteristics increasing slip, trip, and fall risk. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of fatigue from simulated firefighting activities and carrying asymmetric loads (fire hose over one shoulder) on firefighters' gait behavior. Both firefighting activities and asymmetric hoseload carriage led to shorter step lengths, stride lengths, single leg support time, and longer double

Isolated rupture of the accessory soleus tendon: an original and confusing picture.

The accessory soleus muscle is an uncommon congenital anatomical variant with a prevalence ranging from 0.7 to 5.5%. Although intermittent and exertional symptoms caused by this supernumerary muscle have been well documented, acute injuries have not. We present a case of an isolated rupture of the accessory soleus tendon with myotendinous retraction, mimicking clinically a "tennis leg." A 29-year-old woman sustained a hyperdorsal flexion injury of the right ankle with a severe and sudden pain in the middle part of the calf. Radiographs were normal and the diagnosis of "tennis leg" was clinical

Distally Based Peroneus Brevis Muscle Flap for Lower Extremity Defect Reconstruction in Severely Ill Multimorbid Patients.

BACKGROUND: Reconstruction of lower extremity soft tissue defects is an exceptional surgical challenge, especially in multimorbid, elderly and severely ill patients with their thin and tense local soft-tissue conditions and increased perioperative risk. The distally based peroneus brevis muscle flap (DPBM), a local flap based on the muscular branches of the fibular artery, could pose a pragmatic solution. The objective of this study was to evaluate and quantify DPBM defect reconstruction in the lower leg, especially in elderly, multimorbid and severely ill patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The

The effect of a 3-month prevention program on the jump-landing technique in basketball: a randomized controlled trial.

CONTEXT: In jump-landing sports, the injury mechanism that most frequently results in an injury is the jump-landing movement. Influencing the movement patterns and biomechanical predisposing factors are supposed to decrease injury occurrence. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the influence of a 3-mo coach-supervised jump-landing prevention program on jump-landing technique using the jump-landing scoring (JLS) system. DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial. SETTING: On-field. PARTICIPANTS: 116 athletes age 15-41 y, with 63 athletes in the control group and 53 athletes in the intervention group. INTERVE
