Various reconstruction techniques, using the remaining lip or the adjacent cheek tissue, have been described for the repair of lower lip defects. With these techniques, microstomia, commissural distortion, functional insufficiency, and sensorial loss might be observed. Cytology smears from 325 oral carcinomas were studied; the false-negative rate was 37%. Cancers of the floor of mouth exfoliated most malignant cells and those of the gingiva exofoliated the least. There was no correlation between the histologic grading, location, sex of the patient, and the result of the cytology smear. Oral exfoliative cytology should only be used as an adjunctive measure and is not a substitute for biopsy.

PURPOSE: Low-dose-rate brachytherapy (LDR-BT) is a well-established treatment for lip cancer. High-dose-rate (HDR)-BT is a promising alternative to LDR-BT, but data are limited. In this context, we retrospectively evaluated treatment outcomes in a series of patients who underwent HDR-BT for lip carcinoma between 2003 and 2021.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 32 patients were included in this study, with a median age of 73.5 years (range, 61 - 88). The indications for HDR-BT were as follows: primary treatment (n = 17), adjuvant treatment (n = 3), and recurrent disease after surgery (n = 12).

Here we describe the use of a novel lip-to-nose flap technique for nasal planum reconstruction after tumour removal in a dog. A mast cell tumour involving the nasal planum was first resected by removing the roof and the wing of the left nasal vestibule. An interpolation subdermal plexus flap was derived from the left caudal lip with vascular contribution from the lateral nasal artery. Herein, we describe a case of T-cell NHL with a primary lesion on the lip diagnosed with a 25-year-old woman. As for all cancers successful treatment of carcinoma of the lip depends on early detection and treatment. This article describes the different types of carcinoma of the lip with notes on their aetiology, diagnosis, natural histories, treatment and prevention. The observation is made that maxillofacial surgeons are well placed to make an early diagnosis which leads to decreased morbidity and mortality.

Cystic hygromas are large lymphangiomas that are most often found in the posterior triangle of the neck and the axilla in children. They are most frequently found before age 2 and may be massive. BACKGROUND: Although not rare, vascular lesions occurring in the lips sometimes poses a difficult in properly diagnosing and handling them. In this study, vascular lesions occurring in the lips were retrieved from an Oral Pathology Service.
METHODS: Among 5600 biopsies, 131 cases were found. The following diagnoses were attributed: caliber-persistent artery, infantile hemangioma, vascular malformation, venous lake, thrombus, papillary endothelial hyperplasia and pyogenic granuloma. Clinical data were obtained from patients' records.

We report a 59-year-old patient with malignant acanthosis nigricans associated with metastasis of endometrial carcinoma. The patient presented papillomatosis lesions that appeared to be benign on multiple skins of body folds, particularly on lips. The lesions in lips and axilla had histological characteristic appearances of acanthosis nigricans, while the masses in abdomen and pelvis were metastasis endometrial adenocarcinoma. The article highlights the importance of biopsy and histopathological diagnosis in presumed benign lesions and the role of doctors in screening for body internal tumors.
