Patients' perspective in anal cancer.

The high chance for an anal cancer patient to be a long-term survivor stresses the importance of quality of life (QoL) after treatment. Radiation therapy targeting the anal canal can impair anorectal, urinary, and sexual functions. Patients' viewpoints regarding their overall care experiences are aimed at improving information for both patients and healthcare providers to address their unmet needs. This review examines patient perspectives from diagnosis through survivorship, encompassing physical and psychological impacts, side-effect management, and transitioning to survivorship. Two cross-c

Roles of healthcare professionals in the management of chronic gastrointestinal diseases with a focus on primary care: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) refers to a group of complex and chronic conditions that requires long-term care delivered by a group of healthcare professionals through a multidisciplinary care model. We conducted a systematic review to examine and understand the role of healthcare professionals in the primary care management of IBD, and identify the gaps in IBD management that could be filled by primary care providers such as general practitioners (GPs) and pharmacists. METHODS: The search strategy retrieved published studies from five databases, and eligible articles w

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of clinically relevant bacteria isolated from dental waste and waste workers' hands, mucosas and coats.

UNLABELLED: Infectious wastes are potential sources of pathogenic micro-organisms, which may represent a risk to the professionals who manage them. In this study, we aimed to characterize the infectious bacteria present in dental waste and waste workers. The dental waste produced over 24 h was collected and waste workers were sampled by swabbing. Isolate resistance profiles were characterized by Vitek® and PCR and biofilm formation by Congo Red agar, string test and microtitre assay. To assess similarity between the waste and the workers' samples, a random amplified polymorphic DNA test was us

Occurrence of workplace violence and the psychological consequences of it among nurses working in psychiatric outpatient settings.

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: There is a scarcity of studies concerning violence in psychiatric outpatient settings in the 2010s in spite of the deinstitutionalization of psychiatric services. Previous research on violence in psychiatric outpatient settings has failed to consider the association between the psychological consequences of violence, exposures to violence and background factors. WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: It has been known for some time that exposures to violence are harmful for psychiatric inpatient nurses; the paper demonstrates that psychiatric outpatient nurs

A scoping review on community health care centers: Evidence in support of Italian policymakers to redesign the Italian primary care system.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the central role of primary health care in managing patients with complex and chronic health conditions. In response, the Italian government launched a reform of the National Health Service, introducing Community Health Care Centers ("Case della Comunità") as a key pillar of the new primary care model. Evidence is needed on which organizational features of such centers best support integrated, high-quality care. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review synthesized international evidence on community health care centers characterized by integrated care and c

A trauma-informed examination of the hardships experienced by abortion fund patients in the United States.

Researchers describe hardships experienced by abortion patients, examining administrative health cases from 2010 to 2015 in the United States. All patients received financial assistance from an abortion fund to help pay for abortion. Case data were analyzed to assess types and numbers of hardships experienced by age, race, and geographic origin. Hardships ranged from homelessness to parenting multiple children. Patients from the geographic South experienced the most hardships, followed by those from the Midwest. Hardships experienced by abortion fund patients are like those reported in other s

Palliative Care for Immigrants With Cancer in the United States: A Roadmap to Equitable Care.

Across the U.S., immigrants with cancer, especially those who are undocumented or from low-income backgrounds, encounter significant barriers to accessing quality palliative care. Despite cancer comprising over one-third of global palliative care needs, immigrant patients are often excluded from essential services due to lack of insurance, immigration status, limited English proficiency, and culturally discordant care models. These challenges contribute to delayed diagnoses, inadequate symptom management, and lower quality of end-of-life care. This narrative review identifies both patient-leve

Cluster Headache: Economic and Psychological Burdens of Diagnostic Errors and Delays.

Cluster headache (CH) is a devastating primary headache disorder and is widely recognized as one of the most severe pain conditions encountered in clinical practice. The goal of this narrative review is to examine the challenges contributing to the delayed recognition and diagnosis of CH. We divided the cost of CH into direct and indirect costs. We found that direct costs include healthcare services, such as emergency department, primary care, and specialist visits, diagnostic tests, pharmacy services, oxygen therapy, and neuromodulation devices, and increased healthcare utilization, including

The Role of GLP1 Receptor Agonists and Multi-agonist Incretin Therapies for Specific Obesity-related Health Conditions: Evidence and Rationale for Prioritisation.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review evaluates the strength and scope of clinical evidence for GLP-1RAs—liraglutide, semaglutide, and tirzepatide—across obesity and associated complications, providing a structured rationale for prioritisation in clinical practice and policy. RECENT FINDINGS: GLP-1RAs demonstrate significant and reproducible weight loss—approximately 15% with semaglutide and 20% with tirzepatide at one year. Their efficacy in obesity-related health conditions has been best demonstrated through large clinical trials in cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea
