Cognitive factors associated with locomotive syndrome in chronic pain patients: A retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Prevention and treatment for locomotive syndrome (LS) are important for extending healthy life expectancy. The 25-question geriatric locomotive function scale (GLFS-25) was developed to diagnose LS. The Fear-Avoidance model was proposed to explain pain chronicity. LS and chronic pain decrease activities of daily living; however, the relationships between LS and factors related to chronic pain in the Fear-Avoidance model are unknown. Objective of the current study was to assess the prevalence of LS and examine the factors of the Fear-Avoidance model and the GLFS-25 that affect the p

Bone Health in Childhood Chronic Disease.

Many children with chronic disease are now surviving into adulthood. As a result, there is a growing interest in optimizing bone health early in the disease course with the dual goals of improving quality of life during childhood and reducing life-long fracture risk. Risk factors for impaired bone health in these children include immobility, nutritional deficiency, exposure to bone toxic therapies, hormonal deficiencies affecting growth and pubertal development, and chronic inflammation. This review focuses on the chronic diseases of childhood most commonly associated with impaired bone health

Identifying community-dwelling older adults' vision loss during mobility assessments: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND.: Co-occurring mobility issues and vision loss are prevalent in older adults. Vision loss can cause ambulation difficulties and falls. Community-dwelling older adults frequently require mobility-aids assessment by occupational therapists. However, therapists often lack access to medical documentation on vision or training in vision assessment to ensure that clients have adequate vision for safe mobility-aid use. PURPOSE.: This study aimed to identify screening and assessment approaches to identify functional vision loss to guide mobility-aid prescription. METHOD.: A scoping review

Determination of the new psychoactive substance dichloropane in saliva by microextraction by packed sorbent - Ion mobility spectrometry.

A simple procedure based on microextraction by packed sorbent (MEPS) has been proposed for the extraction of dichloropane in oral fluids and its determination by ion mobility spectrometry (IMS). Extraction conditions such as type of sorbent (octyl and octadecyl silica), sample pH, number of sample loadings, and elution volume were evaluated to obtain the most appropriate values. Dichloropane was extracted from saliva samples using C8 MEPS, loading with 100 μL sample (adjusted to pH 7) in 4 cycles, washing with 100 μL deionized water, and eluting with 50 μL 2-propanol in 10 cycles. The proposed

Evaluating Accelerometry Thresholds for Detecting Changes in Levels of Moderate Physical Activity and Resulting Major Mobility Disability.

BACKGROUND: An important decision with accelerometry is the threshold in counts per minute (CPM) used to define moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA). We explore the ability of different thresholds to track changes in MVPA due to a physical activity (PA) intervention among older adults with compromised function: 760 CPM, 1,041 CPM, and an individualized threshold. We also evaluate the ability of change in accelerometry and self-reported PA to attenuate treatment effects on major mobility disability (MMD). METHODS: Data from a week of hip worn accelerometers and self-reported PA data (

[Musculoskeletal system as a target organ of a frailty processes].

Pathology of the musculoskeletal system is widespread in the population and is one of the most common diseases of patients in older age groups. The most significant of them are osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and sarcopenia. All three components separately, of course, lead to lower quality of life. In our work we show the mechanisms of interference of these states at each other, and their combined impact on the musculoskeletal system as a target organ processes senile asthenia. Osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and sarcopenia, and especially their combination lead to hypomobility. Hypomobility under

Functional Aspects in Ageing Adults with Diabetic Neuropathy. A Review.

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) is highly prevalent among diabetic ageing adults. The sensory and motor impairments caused by this long-term complication lead to poorer physical functioning, postural control and balance. These changes affect the activities of daily living and increase the risk of falling, subsequently leading to increased morbidity and decreased quality of life. Early detection of such functional limitations is important, as it may influence the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs and prevent further functional dependence. This review focuses on functional aspects re
