[A case of Leydig cell tumor of the testis].

Leydig cell tumors represent about 3% of all testicular neoplasms. Actually no specific pathologic criteria has really distinguished the benign from the malignant tumors which represent about 11% of the cases. The presence of metastases is the only unequivocal criteria of malignancy. Authors present a rare Leydigoma case with gynecomastia. Clinical, diagnostical and most of all therapeutical aspects are discussed reconfirming the role of the orchifuniculectomy in T1 N0 M0 stage.

Intraventricular tumors of childhood.

Supratentorial intraventricular tumors in childhood are relatively uncommon neoplasms. They are generally benign lesions with certain anatomic predilection, producing symptoms by local expansion and obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid flow. Increased intracranial pressure occurs without focal neurologic deficit because of their relatively silent central cerebral location. The benign nature of supratentorial intraventricular tumors preclude a formal staging system. Listing of tumor type and anatomic location is sufficient.

Central nervous system involvement in plasma cell neoplasms: a rare presentation illustrated by three cases.

Central nervous system (CNS) involvement in plasma cell neoplasms is rare and associated with poor prognosis, and indications for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis remain undefined. We describe three cases: two with advanced-stage, high-risk cytogenetics, and one stage I case meeting criteria for plasma cell leukemia (PCL). In two patients, delayed CSF evaluation after neurological symptoms led to rapid deterioration, whereas early CSF analysis in an asymptomatic patient enabled timely diagnosis. One case worsened acutely after treatment with plerixafor. These findings suggest that CSF evalua

Role of CT in the Staging of Colorectal Tumors: A Preliminary Study on 10 Dogs.

This study aimed to define the CT features of colorectal tumors in dogs and assess CT's role in tumor staging. It was a retrospective, multicenter, descriptive study involving dogs with a cyto-histopathological diagnosis of colorectal tumors and high-quality pre- and post-contrast CT scans of the abdomen. CT successfully identified colorectal lesions in all cases, showing variations such as wall thickening, presence of masses, and luminal stenosis. It also detected lymph node involvement. Overall, this study helps us to understand the CT features of both epithelial and mesenchymal colorectal t

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma, ALK-positive in very young children: A long-term follow-up of two cases and a review of the literature.

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma, ALK-positive is a mature T-cell neoplasm that accounts for 10- 20% of paediatric non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Its frequency in infants and very young children is exceedingly rare and was rarely documented in the literature. The disease prognosis in this agegroup is unknown. We report two male patients who were diagnosed with ALCL-ALK(+) at the ages of 12 and 14 months, both presented with fever and leukemoid reaction, one was in stage I and the other in stage IV diseases. They were treated with APO-based chemotherapy and remained in complete remission for more than 7 y

Orbital lymphoma with isolated occult bilateral adrenal involvement: report of an extremely rare case.

Orbital lymphoma is very rare malignant neoplasm, usually diagnosed in early stage of disease as primary lymphoma, but dissemination occurs in approximately 33% of cases. Isolated bilateral adrenal lymphomatous involvement is extremely rare, described in 0.83% of cases. We present autopsy case of a 63-year-old man with bilateral orbital diffuse large cell lymphoma, clinical stage IEA, successfully treated by one cycle of chemo- and radiotherapy, but after administration of the second cycle, the patient developed signs of gastrointestinal hemorrhage and died two months after the diagnosis. Oral cavity and pharynx.

Imaging of the oral cavity and pharynx often is required in three settings: assessment of an inflammatory mass in association with odontogenic, tonsillar, or pharyngeal infections; determination of the cause of a submucosal mass; and staging of squamous-cell carcinomas. Spread of infection from the oral cavity and pharynx can lead to abscesses in the masticatory space, the retropharyngeal compartment, and in a parapharyngeal location. Submucosal masses include congenital cysts (thyroglossal and dermoid), benign neoplasms (hemangioma, schwannomas, pleomorphic adenomas juvenile angiofibromas), i

Staging of Lung Cancer: A Call for Developing Uniform and Universal Key Performance Indicators and Benchmarks to Elevate Clinical Standards.

Accurate staging is pivotal in lung cancer management, yet standardized key performance indicators (KPIs) for staging practices are lacking. We identified a number of critical areas in the staging process and outlined a starter set of SMART KPIs for patients with early stage NSCLC. We propose clear definitions (numerators/denominators, timing anchors) and risk-adjusted benchmarks. These KPIs should be used to monitor and improve clinical practice; they are not intended to dictate the structure of the TNM classification, which must remain an objective, globally applicable anatomic language. [Key updates in the 16th edition of the japanese classification of gastric carcinoma].

This article summarizes the major updates in the 16th edition of the Japanese Classification of Gastric Carcinoma. Based on its established framework, the revision enhances alignment with the 9th edition of the TNM staging system, the Japanese Classification of Esophageal Cancer, and the WHO Classification (6th edition). The updated edition standardizes the definition and description of esophagogastric junction carcinoma and shortens specimen fixation time to better support molecular testing. In staging, Tis has been introduced and T category definitions have been refined, with removal of outd

Simple Versus Radical Cholecystectomy for Pathological Stage T1B Gallbladder Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Introduction: Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is the sixth most common gastrointestinal malignancy and the most prevalent cancer of the biliary tract. Although recent studies suggest that extended resection may be the optimal approach for managing T1b GBC, there is no clear consensus on whether simple cholecystectomy (SC) or radical cholecystectomy (RC) offers better outcomes. Therefore, we conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to compare these two surgical techniques in the treatment of T1b GBC. Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library through June 20

Staging for endometrial carcinoma FIGO 2023 and its relevance for clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (Fédération Internationale de Gynécologie et d'Obstétrique - FIGO) introduced a new staging system for endometrial carcinoma - FIGO 2023 - in June 2023. OBJECTIVE: The new staging system differs significantly from previous versions. The new system represents a significant departure from the traditional staging systems for other gynaecological cancers, as the definition of individual stages includes not only the traditional anatomical extent of the tumour, but also the molecular profile of the tumour and other histopathological

Gastric adenocarcinoma: A review of the TNM classification system and ways of spreading.

Gastric cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the world. The most common histologic subtype is adenocarcinoma. Gastric adenocarcinomas are staged using the American Joint Committee on Cancer's 8th TNM classification. The perigastric ligaments, mesentery, omentum, and potential spaces between the parietal and visceral peritoneal linings play are important structures for staging. The spread of disease is influenced by the location of the tumor within the stomach, as well as by the anatomy related to the ligaments and lymph vessels. CT is the imaging modality of choice for the preoperative cl

Modern Imaging in Prostate Cancer: Do We Treat Patients, or Their Scans?

New imaging techniques are more sensitive in prostate cancer and reveal sites of disease that may never have been seen with conventional imaging, resulting in stage migration and potentially a change in the clinical management. Until long-term data provide a better understanding of the natural history of the disease defined by more sensitive imaging, patients and clinicians should recognise the considerable uncertainty about whether these improve outcomes. It is hoped that the next iteration of the TNM classification will recognise the problem in some way.

Lung Cancer Staging.

Anatomic staging is a critical step in evaluation of patients with lung cancer. Accurate identification of stage based on features of primary tumor (T), regional nodes (N), and metastatic disease (M) is fundamental to determining appropriate care. In this article, the TNM components of the anatomic staging system and a framework for description of lung cancer with multiple pulmonary sites of involvement are discussed. TNM combinations are grouped according to prognosis, with patient-level, tumor-level, and environment-level factors also influencing survival outcomes. Although the staging syste

Management of Patients with Advanced Prostate Cancer: The Report of the Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference APCCC 2017.

BACKGROUND: In advanced prostate cancer (APC), successful drug development as well as advances in imaging and molecular characterisation have resulted in multiple areas where there is lack of evidence or low level of evidence. The Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC) 2017 addressed some of these topics. OBJECTIVE: To present the report of APCCC 2017. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Ten important areas of controversy in APC management were identified: high-risk localised and locally advanced prostate cancer; "oligometastatic" prostate cancer; castration-naïve and castratio

Diagnosis and local management of breast cancer: part I.

This is the first of a two-part conference report and focuses primary on newer technologies (e.g., molecular methods for intraoperative nodal assessment and MRI/PET imaging) and surgical management in the context of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. A notable feature of the Second Kyoto Breast Cancer Consensus Conference was a consensus session for which a series of key clinical questions in the aforementioned areas formed the basis for discussion. Preconference questionnaires had been issued to all delegates and the final consensus sessions focused on more controversial and problematic areas where th

[Observations on staging of advanced gastric cancer using contact rigid endoscopy].

A rigid contact scope is a recent development of optical instrument which allows observations of the superficial layers of the mucosai epithelium in gynecology and otorhinolaryngology. To assess the evaluation of 25 patients with advanced gastric cancer, whose lesions had been diagnosed to be more than T3 or suspected to have peritoneal deeding, we performed pre operative laparoscope with rigid contact scope. After inspecting a usual laparoscopic observation of the abdominal cavity, serosal exporsure and peritoneal seeding were confirmed. All the patients who had serosal exporsure and cancer c
