Comparative assessment of nurses' knowledge and practice on medical device-related pressure injury management in India and Europe: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: The challenge of applying knowledge of Medical Device Related Pressure Injuries (MDRPIs) to clinical practice persists worldwide. This study examined the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) of nurses dealing with MDRPIs in two disparate organizational ecosystems, India and Europe. This was done to better understand the systemic factors that contribute to gaps in nursing competency as a result of disparate organizational ecosystems. METHODS: The study used a 20-point validated KAP scale with a sample of 334 registered nurses located in Europe and in India. Gaps with

Developing a nurse-led reproductive health mobile health unit in rural Illinois: Opportunity to promote faculty practice and student training.

Mobile health units (MHUs) in the United States have grown to over 3,000 nationwide, increasing health care access and equity to underserved communities. Although MHUs have demonstrated improved patient outcomes, there is a lack of literature on partnering with nursing colleges and their faculty. This report will share how a college of nursing and their office of faculty practice and partnerships in a large midwestern state university implemented a nurse-led MHU to deliver reproductive health care to rural communities in central Illinois, incorporating advanced practice registered nurses (APRN

Approaches and Challenges in the Current Management of Cytomegalovirus in Transplant Recipients: Highlighting the Role of Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants).

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) and solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients, with traditional anti-CMV therapies limited by their associated toxicities and the development of resistance. Clinical providers are often faced with challenging and complicated CMV infections that require multiple courses of antiviral therapies. Increasingly, advanced practice providers (APPs) are playing an important role in the day-to-day management of transplant recipients with CMV infection, including resistant/refractory

How We Manage Patients with Indolent B-Cell Malignancies on Bruton's Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors: Practical Considerations for Nurses and Pharmacists.

The most common forms of B-cell malignancy, non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), have seen a drastic shift in the treatment landscape over the last two decades with the introduction of targeted agents. Among them are Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitors, which have demonstrated excellent efficacy in indolent B-cell NHLs and CLL. Although BTK inhibitors are generally thought to be more tolerable than chemoimmunotherapy, they are associated with a unique safety profile including varying rates of rash, diarrhea, musculoskeletal events, cardiovascular events, and

This review aims to provide an overview of the current trends of prescription psychostimulant usage for individuals with methamphetamine use disorder from a Canadian perspective, identifies the barriers t

Professional Services Rendered by Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants Employed by Radiology Practices: Characteristics and Trends From 2017 Through 2019.

PURPOSE: With radiology practices increasingly employing nonphysician practitioners (NPPs), we aimed to characterize specific NPP clinical roles. METHODS: Linking 2017 to 2019 Medicare data sets, we identified all claims-submitting nurse practitioners and physician assistants (together NPPs) employed by radiologists. NPP-billed services were identified, weighted by work relative value units, and categorized as (1) clinical evaluation and management (E&M), (2) invasive procedures, and (3) noninvasive imaging interpretation. NPP practice patterns were assessed temporally and using frequency ana

Mother-nurse decision making practices for children with complex health care needs receiving homecare services: A qualitative descriptive study.

BACKGROUND: Many children with complex health care needs face chronic health and developmental issues that may include functional impairments, neurodevelopmental disabilities, and lifelong dependence on medical technology. Providing the necessary care and services for this unique group of children and youth places substantial demands on the health care system. Much of the focus on improvements has been in acute care settings even though homecare accounts for the largest proportion of health care utilization among children with complex health care needs. While parents assume great responsibilit

Nursing students' knowledge, attitudes, preparedness and practice towards intimate partner violence against women: a scoping review and thematic synthesis.

BACKGROUND: Nursing students regularly work with women who have experienced intimate partner violence in their clinical placements and subsequently as registered nurses. They have a role in early detection, intervention, onward referral and education of women about intimate partner violence. Therefore, it is necessary to gain a comprehensive understanding of their capability to care for abused women and identify learning needs. Nonetheless, the level of preparedness of nursing students to deal with intimate partner violence has not been reviewed. AIM: To search and review the existing evidenc

Improving knowledge, attitudes, and practice of nurses in medication administration through enteral feeding tubes by clinical pharmacists: a case-control study.

PURPOSE: Administering drugs and food to patients with swallowing disabilities via enteral tubes requires special skills. This task is a nursing duty and vital to ensure that they do this safely. An integrated program training nurses by a clinical pharmacist is likely to result in improved quality of oral drug administration via enteral feeding tubes. This quantitative study was undertaken to determine the efficacy of a clinical pharmacist educational program for improving nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and practice (KAP) concerning administrating medication via feeding tubes. METHODS: This ca

Team Triage Intervention, Including Licensed Practical Nurse, to Increase HIV Testing Rates in the Emergency Department: A Quality Improvement Project.

INTRODUCTION: Emergency departments have an important role in screening for human immunodeficiency virus infection and reducing the morbidity, mortality, and transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus. There are debates about human immunodeficiency virus screening, including opt-in, opt-out, and active choice models. Previous studies have shown that multiple factors affect the patient rate of acceptance, including where, when, and by whom the screening is offered. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to test a team-based triage intervention to improve the amount of HIV tes
