OBJECTIVES: This study examined individual and contextual factors that explain students' victimization by peers among 4th- through 6th-grade Jewish and Arab students.
METHOD: A total of 120 homeroom teachers and 3,375 students from 47 schools participated. The study explored how students' reports of violence are influenced by individual factors (gender, age, perception of school climate, victimization by teachers, and fear) teacher-class factors (school climate, homeroom teachers' characteristics such as self-efficacy, and education) and cultural affiliation as a school level factor.

BACKGROUND: Earlier studies have demonstrated suboptimal confidence among recently graduated medical students in diagnosing and managing musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, despite the high prevalence of MSK disorders, underscoring gaps in MSK education. As a result, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) in MSK medicine can be particularly challenging for novice medical students. Near-peer teaching (NPT) may be a valuable teaching modality for improving medical students' knowledge and confidence.
OBJECTIVE: To explore medical students' perceptions and the factors influencing their

We investigated the mental rotation ability of children with spina bifida, a malformation of the spinal cord due to a neural tube defect, and how it is influenced by a manual rotation training. In comparison to a healthy control group these children showed longer reaction times and a higher number of errors in a computer-based mental rotation test. Furthermore, a manual rotation training was applied. The spina bifida group benefited considerably from the manual rotation training. The training effect was not limited to stimuli learned in the training. While the children with spina bifida showed

Leisure activities were examined for young adults with mild mental retardation. Some had disappeared from mental retardation services after leaving school; others were in adult day services. Peers without mental retardation (comparison subjects) were also included. Various leisure activities were combined using cluster analysis. Some adults with mental retardation and some comparison subjects were found in each of the 13 clusters obtained but proportions varied. Leisure patterns were strongly influenced by gender and marital status as well as mental retardation, except for one cluster, Sociall

BACKGROUND: Following the change in 2022 of a scored United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 to a binary pass-fail grading system, greater emphasis has been placed on the Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (Step 2 CK) exam. Shelf or subject exams offered by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) help prepare students for Step 2CK and therefore deserve the attention of clerkship directors. This paper reviews the literature pertaining to the factors that positively and negatively impact medical students' performance on the shelf exams, including but not limited to performance i

Our team developed content in English and Spanish for a technology-based intervention designed to increase vaccination against COVID-19 among people who inject drugs. From 2022 through 2024, we recruited 545 participants via peer referral, all of whom reported past 90-day injection drug use. Participants completed a tablet-based intervention, and software asked if they would like to vaccinate against COVID. Participants who did not vaccinate at the first visit received follow-up text messages. Participants who completed the intervention in Spanish were more than 2.5 times as likely to vaccinat

Somatic symptoms tend to increase during early adolescence and although youth's social environments and emotional functioning play a role in somatic symptoms, few studies have examined mechanisms through which social interaction could influence youth's somatic wellbeing. Participants were 132 youth (61.6% girls, Mage = 12.61 years, 84.7% Caucasian) and their mothers. Reciprocated best-friend dyads participated in a video-taped problem discussion task to assess peer emotion socialization responses. Supported employment is an evidence-based practice with a well-established research base. Most studies track such outcomes as employment rates, time to employment and wages earned. Few studies address client and contextual factors that impact outcomes or consider program elements beyond those that comprise the individual placement and support model. This paper reviews existing literature to shed light on the following questions: (1) What impact do labour market trends have on the effectiveness of SE? (2) How lasting are the effects of SE and what factors influence longevity of SE effects? (3)

INTRODUCTION: Understanding protective factors associated with adolescent contraceptive use can guide strategies to prevent unprotected sex and its consequences. The current study investigated associations between a set of protective factors, specifically indicators of positive youth development, and consistency of contraceptive use.
METHOD: This cross-sectional study examined relationships between positive youth development indicators and consistency of contraceptive use among sexually active adolescent girls at elevated risk for pregnancy. Multivariate models assessed whether measures of in

Homeless youth are at increased risk for involvement in the criminal justice system. This study investigated childhood trauma as a risk factor for arrest or jail among a sample of youth seeking services at drop in, shelter, and transitional housing settings, while controlling for more established risk factors including: substance use, peer deviance, and engagement in survival behaviors. Standardized and researcher developed measures collected quantitative data through face-to-face interviews with youth (N = 202). Two sequential logic regression models identified significant predictors of arres

This study reports on the effects of having a history of physical and/or sexual abuse on treatment processes and posttreatment abstinence among adolescents (N = 803) in a multisite study of drug treatment outcomes. A history of physical and/or sexual abuse was reported by 59% of the girls and 39% of the boys and was related to being White and having higher levels of comorbidity, exposure to other traumatic events, dependence on alcohol and marijuana, problem recognition, and negative peer or family influence. Abused adolescents had more service needs at treatment admission and there was some v

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Communication about the at-risk mental state may shape not only clinical understanding but also peer-directed social evaluations. Prior work from our group has shown that positively reframing psychosis-risk feedback reduces perceived emotional harm and clinician stigma. The present study examined whether positive reframing influences adolescents' peer-directed social stigma and desire for social distance toward an at-risk youth, and whether these effects are moderated by adolescents' own distressing prodromal experiences, sex, and cultural background.
METHODS: One hundred

BACKGROUND: The non-consensual dissemination of sexually explicit electronic messages (non-consensual sexting) among adolescents from ethnocultural minority backgrounds is a severe form of digital aggression that remains internationally under-researched.
METHOD: Integrating Ecological Systems and Social Cognitive theories, the present study examined the prevalence of non-consensual sexting roles (sending, receiving, and forwarding) and the predictive contribution of perceived native peer pressure (i.e., peers from the Greek majority without a migrant background), self-control, and sexual preo
