Alveolar bone defects represent one of the most common complications following periapical diseases, periodontal pathologies, trauma, or tooth extraction. Conventional bone grafting techniques are constrained by limitations such as limited donor avaoil ability, immune rejection, and insufficient bioactivity. Smart responsive hydrogels, owing to their programmable physicochemical properties, capacity to construct biomimetic microenvironments, and spatiotemporally controllable drug/cell delivery capabilities, can effectively inhibit alveolar bone resorption and promote bone regeneration. Odontogenic infections can directly trigger maxillary sinusitis. CBCT is an excellent choice for precise examination of maxillary sinuses and hard tissues within the oral cavity. The objective of this retrospective and the cross-sectional study was to analyze the influence of odontogenic conditions on the presence and intensity of maxillary sinus mucous membrane thickening using CBCT imaging. Moreover, periodontal bone loss and anatomic relationship between adjacent teeth and maxillary sinuses were assessed to evaluate its possible impact on creating maxillary thickening. The study sample cons

Odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) is thought to be an odontogenic cyst of developmental origin that can arise at any place in the jaws, but mostly occurs in the mandibular angle and ramus area. It is clinically indistinguishable from a lateral periodontal cyst. A proper diagnosis can only be made based on histopathological examination. A 47-year-old woman presented with a gingival swelling on the inner aspect of the anterior region of the lower jaw. The swelling was of one year's duration and asymptomatic. Intraoral periapical radiograph revealed a well-defined oval radiolucency in the interradicul

The term fusion is used to define a developmental anomaly characterised by the union of two adjacent teeth. In the case reported here, clinical and radiographic examinations suggested a unilateral fusion between the mandibular left permanent incisor and a super-numerary tooth. Radiographs showed that the fused teeth had two distinct pulp chambers and canals. A diagnosis of chronic periapical abscess of the supernumerary tooth was made. Before root canal therapy, a periodontal surgical procedure was performed to section the central incisor and its fused supernumerary. Also, odontoplasty was per

Implant placement at the time of extraction has become an acceptable treatment option. The formation of a restorative treatment plan frequently requires the removal of questionable and hopeless teeth. This retrospective case series analysis reports the reasons for tooth removal before immediate implant placement and provides a rationale for removing questionable and hopeless teeth. Root length is also analyzed as related to tooth loss. Between September 1986 and December 1998, 460 teeth were removed from 282 patients. Reasons for removal were advanced periodontal disease, endodontic complicati

Five cases of transplantation of fully developed third molars to second or first molar sites have been reported. Three of the transplants were in the mandibular molar region and two were in the maxillary molar region. There has been long-term follow-up and evaluation of the patients in these cases up to 13 years postoperatively. None of the patients had any complaint about the transplanted tooth at the long-term follow-up visit. In all five cases, at the long-term follow-up visit, the periodontal tissues were in excellent condition and there was growth of new attachment, as demonstrated by lam

Modern endodontic surgery involves both root-end preparation and proper sealing of all apical portals of exit. Both components are requirements for mechanical and biological success, but the management of soft tissues becomes increasingly important for an esthetically successful treatment. A healthy appearance of soft tissues plays an important role in the esthetic outcome of periradicular surgery. This is true considering maintenance of attachment levels and regarding the amount of possible recession after surgical procedures. Complete, recession-free and predictable healing of gingival tissu

BACKGROUND: Chronic periodontitis is a prevalent oral health issue, affecting a substantial portion of the population. Infrabony defects, characterized by bone loss around teeth, are a hallmark of this condition and require surgical intervention to prevent further damage and tooth loss. Two commonly used surgical approaches are open flap debridement (OFD) and guided tissue regeneration (GTR).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 60 patients with chronic periodontitis and infrabony defects. Patients were randomly assigned to either the OFD or GTR group. Clinical parame

Museum specimens from 637 grey foxes (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) were examined macroscopically according to predefined criteria. Of the 637 specimens, 569 were included for further examination. The study population included more males (n = 261, 45.9%) than females (n = 196, 34.4%) and animals of unknown sex (n = 112, 19.7%). Additionally, 481 (84.5%) adults, 67 (11.8%) young adults and 21 (3.7%) individuals of unknown age comprised the study population, with juveniles and neonates excluded. The number of teeth present for examination was 23,066 (96.5%) with 624 (2.6%) absent artefactually, 15 (

CASE REPORT: This is a case report of diagnosis and management of a foreign body embedded in the gingivae of a preschool child. A 3 year-old girl presented with pain, mobility and intraoral oedema of the upper left primary canine (#63). An angular, diffuse radiolucency on the mesial aspect of the primary canine was observed in the periapical radiograph and within this radiolucency, a linear radiopacity was noted in contact with the mesial surface of the root. A clinical diagnosis of severe localized periodontal involvement due to foreign body embedment was made. It was initially attempted unsu
