Desmoplastic melanoma in Sweden in 2009-2022: A population-based registry study demonstrating distinctive tumour characteristics, incidence and survival trends.

BACKGROUND: Desmoplastic melanoma (DM) is a rare subtype, accounting for less than 5% of primary cutaneous invasive melanomas. DM often arises in chronically sun-exposed skin, in older individuals. While the incidence of cutaneous melanoma has increased globally, trends specific to DM are less documented and studies on survival outcomes for DM are inconsistent. OBJECTIVES: To study patient and tumour characteristics, incidence trends and survival outcomes of desmoplastic melanoma in comparison with other melanoma subtypes using data from the population-based Swedish Melanoma Registry (SweMR).

CBCT Evaluation of Maxillary Incisive Canal Characteristics Among Population in Regard to Possibility of Implant Cortical Anchorage-A Multicenter Study.

Background/Objectives: Implant placement in cases of severe bone atrophy or compromised alveolar bone requires careful planning, especially in the anterior maxilla. The nasopalatine canal (NPC) and its cortical walls offer potential anchorage sites. This study evaluates the NPC's anatomical characteristics using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to assess its suitability for implant anchorage. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 150 CBCT scans from three dental clinics in Poland was conducted. NPC measurements-including length, width, number of canals, and distances to adjacent anatomical

Population Estimation and Demographic Characteristics of Free-Roaming Dogs on Kasetsart University Kamphaeng Saen Campus, Thailand: Implications for Rabies Control.

Free-roaming dogs (FRDs) pose significant public health and animal welfare challenges globally, particularly in developing nations, where they serve as major reservoirs for zoonotic diseases, especially rabies. Determining the population size of FRDs, their demographic characteristics, and the factors influencing population size is essential for effective dog population management, which constitutes a critical component of rabies control programs. This study aimed to estimate the size and describe the characteristics of the FRD population and evaluate temporal and spatial variations in FRD sig

Negative and positive mental health characteristics of affected family members: Findings from a cross-sectional Australian general population gambling study.

Despite the impact of problem gambling on affected family members (AFMs), there are limited large-scale population level studies identifying the negative mental health (NMH) and positive mental health (PMH) characteristics of AFMs. Furthermore, no study has explored whether PMH characteristics are protective in the relationships between AFM status and NMH characteristics. This study involved secondary data analysis from the Third Social and Economic Impact Study of Gambling in Tasmania. Using a subsample of 1,869 adults (48.30 % male; meanage = 48.48; 4.67 % AFMs), this study aimed to explore

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction: from echocardiographic characteristics to a cardiovascular damage score in a high-risk hypertensive population.

BACKGROUND: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a high prevalence condition, with high rates of hospitalization and mortality. Arterial hypertension is the main risk factor for HFpEF. Among hypertensive patients, alterations in cardiac and vascular morphology identify hypertension-mediated organ damage (HMOD). Cardiac HMOD in terms of ventricular hypertrophy and diastolic dysfunction is a continuum between the preclinical condition (arterial hypertension) and HFpEF. In hypertensive patients, it is currently unknown what is the prevalence of individuals classifiable as bei

Characteristics of hematological parameters on admission in COVID-19 Omicron variant infected in Chinese population: a large-scale retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: The Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, currently the most prevalent strain, has rapidly spread in Jingzhou, China, due to changes in the country's epidemic prevention policy, resulting in an unprecedented increase in cases. Previous studies reported hematological parameters' predictive value in COVID-19 severity and prognosis, but their relevance for early diagnosis in patients infected by the Omicron variant, particularly in high-risk pneumonia cases, remains unclear. Our study aimed to evaluate these parameters as early warning indicators for Omicron-infected patients in fever clinic

Epidemiology, Tumor Characteristics, and Survival in Patients With Primary Pancreatic Lymphoma: A Large Population-based Study Using the SEER Database.

INTRODUCTION: Primary pancreatic lymphoma (PPL) is an extranodal manifestation of non-Hodgkin lymphoma originating in the pancreas, which constitutes <1% of all pancreatic neoplasms. Because of the rarity of the disease, most data on PPL are derived from case reports and small case series. To provide better insight into the epidemiology, treatment, and outcomes of these patients, we conducted an analysis of patients with PPL from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database, which is presented in this study. METHODS: Patients with PPL were identified using the International
