3D-Printed Porous Titanium Cages in Lumbar Interbody Fusion.

Lumbar degenerative disease is one of the most common indications for spinal surgery, and lumbar interbody fusion (LIF) remains a central technique in its management. The performance of an interbody fusion cage largely depends on its material composition and structural design, which influence segmental stability and the quality of bony fusion. This review summarizes the material characteristics, biomechanical rationale, biological behavior, and clinical applications of three-dimensional-printed porous titanium (3D-pTi) interbody cages. Advances in additive manufacturing enable precise control

Wearable 3D-Printed Microneedle Sensor for Intradermal Temperature Monitoring.

Accurate temperature monitoring plays a crucial role in understanding the physiological status of patients and the early diagnosis of diseases commonly associated with local and global infections. Intradermal temperature measurement is, in principle, more precise than skin surface detection, as it prevents interference from environmental temperature changes and skin secretions. However, to date, precise and reliable intradermal temperature monitoring in a real-time and continuous manner remains a challenge. We propose herein high-resolution 3D printing to fabricate a mechanically robust and bi…

Expanding applications of 3D-Printed stents to non-stenotic airways.

Tracheobronchial stents have advanced significantly since their introduction in the 1980s, with virtual airway modeling and three-dimensional (3D) printing enabling the production of patient-specific custom airway stents. Since their FDA approval in 2019, 3D-printed custom stents have offered a promising solution for complex airway conditions. However, their use has primarily focused on tracheal stenosis and tracheobronchomalacia. The two cases presented here demonstrate novel applications of 3D printed stents in non-malignant airway diseases, specifically extrinsic vascular compression and br…

Use of a 3D-printed Model for Autotransplantation Adjacent to a Cleft Site.

Early loss of teeth in the premaxilla can limit future restorative options. One solution is replacement using autotransplantation. This surgical technique can be optimized by using 3D-printed models to aid in planning and improving the prognosis. The pur- pose of this case report is to describe the autotransplantation of a premolar into the site of a hopeless maxillary incisor in a 12-year-old male with bilateral cleft lip and palate who had missed previous bone grafting opportunities, using a 3D-printed ana- logue. After a 25-month-follow-up, the autotransplantation continued to be successful

Validating a Novel 3D Printed Depth Gauge With Mandible Models.

Background/needTraditional bone depth gauges are notoriously inaccurate tools, often used in head and neck surgery, that estimate the screw length needed for fracture fixation after bicortical drilling. Complications related to inaccurately sized screws may include soft tissue irritation or weakness of the repair and subsequent refracture. To improve size selection accuracy, a prototype depth gauge was 3D printed and tested in mandibles.MethodsThe prototype was constructed with a rotating deployable hook and intra-operative disassembly feature to extract the device if it became stuck. Ten 3.2

Fracture toughness of three-dimensional printed and milled denture bases.

Denture base fractures are a common issue, particularly in overdentures, necessitating high fracture toughness in denture base polymers to withstand oral mechanical loads. Despite the importance of fracture resistance, current denture base materials often fall short of meeting the required standards. The literature shows conflicting results regarding the fracture toughness of three-dimensional (3D)-printed materials compared to conventional and milled options. This study aimed to address this gap by evaluating the fracture toughness of commercially available digital denture base resins, includ

Oxygen-enhanced 3D-printed scaffolds for repair of ischemic bone.

Avascular necrosis (AVN) is a bone degenerative condition characterized by disrupted blood supply, leading to bone necrosis and subsequent bone collapse. Current AVN treatments, such as core decompression and surgical interventions, exhibited limited success rates due to donor site morbidity, infection, and structural mismatch. Existing treatments fail to regenerate the necrotic bone and prevent bone collapse. Thus, the current study explores the potential of 3D-printed composite scaffolds consisting of calcium peroxide nanoparticles (CaO2NPs) and manganese dioxide (MnO2) within a polylactide

Lip print evidence: Poland as the Last Bastion of Practical Cheiloscopy.

Cheiloscopic examinations have long been conducted, and many scientists have reported the usefulness of cheiloscopy for personal identification with a characteristic and individual pattern of furrows on the vermilion lip. For almost 40 years, research conducted in Poland has determined the patterns of these furrows and the separation and development of their individual features. This was the basis for forming expert opinions and presenting them in court as evidence. In Poland, cheiloscopic expertise is performed and the results of precise procedures that are accredited and assessed serve as ev
