Reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) is a symptom complex characterized by pain, hyperesthesia, and vasomotor instability. Sixty consecutive patients admitted to the spinal cord injury unit at a Downey, California medical center were evaluated for hand and upper extremity pain. An extensive research protocol was used to evaluate the conditions of 48 consecutive patients with acute facial paralysis.
