A 57-year-old man with Felty's syndrome had flank pain as a result of ureteral obstruction and right hydronephrosis. The obstruction was due to retroperitoneal necrobiotic granulomas typical of rheumatoid nodules.

Angiomatous lymphoid hamartomas or pseudolymphomas have been reported most commonly within the chest and usually are mistaken for thymic tumors of lymphomatous tissue. Pelvic retroperitoneal location, to our knowledge, has been described only on three occasions. Only a high index of suspicion can make one recognize this rare lesion and save unnecessary radical surgery and/or radiation therapy. Removal of the mass led to dissappearance of associated systemic manifestations in many of the patients.

Perforation of the gallbladder into the retroperitoneum is a very rare event. A case report is given of a 71 year old patient suffering from acute cholecystitis. A perforation occurred and a retroperitoneal abscess developed. Cholecystectomy, appendectomy and retroperitoneal drainage were performed, and the patient recovered. A review from the literature is given covering 6 other cases.

Sonography was used to visualize hematomas in hemophilic patients. The method is especially helpful for the diagnosis of psoas hematoma and retroperitoneal hematoma and allows the follow-up of hematomas of the cervical region and muscle hematomas. The method is simple, rapid, painless and has no known adverse effects.

We describe the case of a 71-year-old man with a ganglioneuroma of the retropharyngeal space. The patient presented with a submucosal bulge … nal tumours. Peripherally, ganglioneuromas are predominantly found in the posterior mediastinum and retroperitoneal space. Only nine ganglioneuromas of the retropharyngeal space have been reported in the English literature since the early 1980s.

The thoracic kidney is the rarest form of renal ectopia. Furthermore, it is usually asymptomatic and discovered incidentally. It is seen as a mass in the posterior mediastinum or juxta-diaphragmatic on chest radiography. A computed tomography scan or magnetic resonance imaging is usually needed for a definitive diagnosis. The thoracic kidney typically exits the retroperitoneal space through the foramen of Bochdalek.
