Iatrogenic pneumomediastinum with extensive subcutaneous emphysema after endodontic treatment: report of 2 cases.

Pneumomediastinum with subcutaneous emphysema is a relatively rare complication of dental treatment. The most common dental etiology of this complication is the introduction of air via the air-turbine handpiece during surgical extraction of an impacted tooth, but this complication is very rare after nonsurgical endodontic treatment. We report herein 2 cases of massive pneumomediastinum and cervicofacial subcutaneous emphysema that developed after opening an access cavity for endodontic retreatment. We describe its etiologies and guidelines for the prevention of this complication during nonsurg

Forced orthodontic extrusion and use of CAD/CAM technique for reconstruction of a maxillary central incisor with a severely damaged crown: rehabilitation with a multidisciplinary approach.

Dentists encounter fractured anterior teeth on a regular basis. Various methods have been reported in the literature for rehabilitation of an extremely compromised tooth. This report presents a case where esthetic rehabilitation of a fractured maxillary right central incisor was performed employing a multidisciplinary approach: conventional endodontic treatment followed by orthodontic extrusion and final restoration using a CAD /CAM-fabricated one-piece milled zirconia post and core with a full-coverage zirconia crown.

Intraspinal extradural variations of nerve roots.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this work is to point out the intraspinal extradural anatomical variations of nerve roots and their possible participation in radiculopathy. METHODS: The anatomical study was performed in 33 cadavers at a mean age of 46.5 and up to 24h from death. All extradural anastomoses between nerve roots were excised and examined histologically for the presence or absence of nervous tissue. The type of the plexus was defined by subtracting from the root C2. RESULTS: Findings with the normotype of plexus formation prevailed in 24 cases (72.7%). Variations in its formation were o

Accuracy of Static Guided Endodontic Access in Pulp Canal Obliteration: Influence of Sleeve Design on Clinical Precision.

OBJECTIVES: Pulp canal obliteration (PCO) presents a major challenge in endodontic treatment due to canal calcification, which complicates canal localization and increases the risk of errors during freehand access (FHA). Static guided endodontic access (SGEA) has been introduced to improve accuracy; however, the influence of guide sleeve design, particularly material and height, remains unclear. METHODS: This in vitro study used 48 standardized 3D-printed maxillary central incisors with simulated PCO. Tooth-supported guides with titanium, cobalt-chromium (CoCr), and zirconia sleeves at height

Influence of shaft length on torsional behavior of endodontic nickel-titanium instruments.

Torsional stresses are one of the most frequent causes of intracanal separation of nickel-titanium endodontic instruments, which represents a great concern of endodontists. For this reason, torsional resistance of rotary instruments has been deeply investigated by determining all parameters that can influenced it, that can be summarized in: (1) Tooth-related factors, (2) Strategy-related factors and (3) Instrument-related factors. This study was conducted to examine the influence of shaft length on torsional resistance of a nickel-titanium rotary instrument and if it should be considered as an

Retrieval of extensive gutta-percha extruded into the maxillary sinus: use of 3-dimensional cone-beam computed tomography.

INTRODUCTION: Close proximity of the maxillary sinus to the roots of maxillary teeth can predispose to the inadvertent deposition of endodontic products into the maxillary sinus. One such material is thermoplasticized injectable gutta-percha, which has gained popularity of late. As a consequence of overfilling, some patients warrant surgical retrieval. METHODS: A case report of extreme overextension of gutta-percha within the maxillary sinus after endodontic retreatment on tooth #14 was provided. The distobuccal and palatal canals had been obturated with gutta-percha master cones and backfill

Generalised versus Regional Odontodysplasia: Diagnosis, Transitional Management, and Long-Term Followup-A Report of 2 Cases.

Background. Odontodysplasia is an uncommon condition. It can be localised or generalised, isolated or part of a syndrome. Case Report. We first report the case of an 8.5-year-old boy who presented with abnormally shaped teeth and multiple intraoral abscesses. Findings of clinical and radiographic examinations were consistent with those of generalised odontodysplasia. A 2-step, conservative treatment plan was executed with a 10-year followup. Step 1 was root canal treatment of nonvital teeth. Step 2 was crowning without preparation of new vital, erupted, and malformed teeth. The second case is
